i currently own a mk4 1.8 (non turbo ) golf with full anni kit, etc, etc, but its too slow for me and i fancy a change to something cheaper, faster and fun to drive, but still with some modern refinements like power steering, etc, thats why im looking at mk3's and not mk2's, and after a 2.0ltr 16v, not an 8v
i have spotted a mk3 anniversary 16v 3dr for sale, totally standard even including the original red wheels, 119,000 on the clock, with loads of service history, reciepts etc, at a garage, for £1700. Does that sound a bit high to you? what kind of price would you pay for something of that spec? It does look immaculate mind but does sound a tad on the pricey side.
also, what else is there to look out for on mk3's, any problems that they suffer when they start to get on a bit? rust is obviously an issue but i guess this can be treated if its not too bad.
im located just south of bristol so if anyone has one for sale around this area i would be more then happy to have a gander and possibly take it off your hands, for the right price of course
cheers guys, and sorry for the long post

it does, mine cost £1000 it had 97'000 on the clock p reg and all standard and not abused a yr ago just look around for some grandad selling one off cheap not knowing what he as and beleave it or not i got it of ebay of all places.

These are hard to price (like most cars nowadays!!) but the 16v is the rarest anniversary models and do fetch a premium, I would say (without seeing the car!)
try for £1500 if its good condition (also check the maintenence section as there's a buying guide on there)
-
Welcome to the site, I would say around £1500 plus not sure what you mean by red wheels.
-
I was wondering about the wheels too.
-
oh did the anniversary not come with red wheels as standard? my bad, they do set the car off though in my opinion, i havent seen another one like it.
heres a pic

cheers for the replies guys, i will check out the maintenance section and try to knock him down as much as possible, it looks in very good condition, well looked after, but you never know what lies underneath, i will have to check the stack of paper work and see whats been done on it
cheers again

Never seen Anni wheels with a red lip before.. although they actually kinda look photoshopped.. to be honest though it's nearly 4 in the morning and I'm getting to the point where I'm gunna need match sticks to keep my eyes open so it could just be me!!
If the lips really have been painted then it's probably because the polished lip often suffers from corrosion/lacquer peel so the lips often need refurbing, and as polishing metal can be expensive he's probably just painted them!
-
is that the actual car your thinking of buying?? because that one aint standard..
-
As above the wheels are noted for corroding really badly so someone has painted them to cover how bad they are.
It is not factory and to me looks horrid.

I think it is overpriced, yes it is an anni but lots of miles.

heres the link

im after the 16v not the 8v, 3dr preferably, and 100,000 or less, standard or anni, it doesnt bother me really, as long as it has been cared for thats all that matters
still sounds a bit pricey for such an old car??? i spose the annis fetch a premium over the normal ones but i wouldnt expect that much? maybe if the miles were lower then yeah, and 16v, of course, it does look nice mind
am i asking too much?
-
not at all mate, still some out there. good luck with your search
-
in my eyes anything over 2k is dreaming for any mk3 other than a mint low milage vr, could easily get a decent 16v for around 1500
-
We were talking about this last night, and you can easily get a very very nice mk3 for 1.5k. And a VR for maybe less. Only mk3's that go for more than 2k tend to be show prepped ones, or ones with conversions, such as 1.8t's.
