Im after info and references for putting a r32 into a mk3. I already am collecting the parts. I plan to use the R32 on the VR6 gearbox with an uprated clutch to keep it easy with the fitting, and the vr6 pedal box.
The things i dont know anything about are changes to the mounts, as i have heard it needs to be put in lower than a vr6. And also the wiring, as im thinking about doing a mk4 dash into the car at the same time, to run the mk4 clocks. Although i have heard also you could use a mk3 vr6 ecu and loom?
Just after info, and links or anything really to this build, as i know it has been done a fair few times. But atm its looking like after ed38 this year, the engine will be out, r32 will be bolted in, and i will be totally clueless on getting it running. lol.
Cheers

Some info here
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3232416
Doesn't give much specific info.
From stuff I've read you will need to change the gearbox to something like the vr6 box, or you can get an adaptor to adapt the R32 box to 2wd. If you go with the vr6 box I would think you will need an lsd fitted to get the power down. Gearbox mount looks like it will need to be a special. Storm do a conversion exhaust manifold to fit an R32 into a MK3.
If you are changing in the R32 dash then you might as well change the whole wiring loom to the R32 one, that will be a daunting task.

Cheers. I have seen the storm ehaust part. Changing the whole cars loom sounds a bit intense but I would like a mk4 dash. Will read that link now. Cheers
-
I believe you can splice the mk4 loom into a mk3, I am sure someone on ed38 did it that way.

how much are R32 engines roughly?
And will you be doing the conversion yourself mikester?
if not, how much will it be costing?
I wouldnt mind having a swift r32 in mine. but mine is a gti 8v. Will this be more of an awkward job, Or do you need a 16v setup or Vr6.
meaning, brakes, clutch, gearbox etc.
something very interested in. :smug:

I'm hoping to get an engine for about 1100. Possibly with loom etc. Then need vr6 gearbox ontop. Going to fit it myself with friends. Then enlist help for wiring. All about who you know. Going to do the whole conversion over winter on the road for spring feat strip action. And under 3k

Sounds good, good luck, when you've done it, i'll have it off ya, save me doing the fantastic task
-
Haha. No chance mate.
It wont be that bad to do to be honest, once september is over, i will just take it off the road, and have the engine already there.
I just need to find more info on exactly what is required to do the conversion in the wiring area.
-
Would it be worth contacting storm to provide the engine mounts? As they have done this conversion before. Sure they would be up for it, if i used them for the conversion manifold also.
-
Will really be looking forward to seeing this when it's done Mikester :)
-
How much is the insurance on this beast then?
-
lol, think i was thinking the same as adam then :)
will defo be keeping an eye on this!!!
will be nice to see a seriously good looking and fast mk3, doesnt happen much, lol
-
Under a specialist policy the insurance will not be too bad.
-
If it's the same as a mk4 r32 it won't be that bad. Probably a bit more. But it's worth it. Lol. Going to email a few places now

Some useful info from ed38:
if using vr box it will all go back in on same mounts
you might want to looking into get a special front mount made like the Vf
Acr do one for the converson
also use a dubpower 6 branch so you can use your exsisting vr6 exhaust system
plug and play looms can be made to keep mk3 clocks running on r32 ecu mapped but you can use r32 loom n ecu if changing dash etc
if using vr box also might wnt to change the diff and final drive to maybe a 3.94
Pm Vento_gareth on here and he can give you some info
im doing the same conversion just after players this year
fairly simple to be honest

I'm glad you are going through with the r32 rather than the vr6 as a vr can be bought as such where as you will be building the r from the ground up! Car is gonna be a beast mate good luck with it!

I'm sure the vr won't be much harder. Just will cost a bit more for the actual engine it's self. Plus also having to update standard vr parts ef clutch.
