Nothing has changed in the car since I took it for a drive yesterday. No problems on the drive. It's just been sat on the driveway since last night
Any ideas what's wrong?
-
In o2 just means its due a service and is a reminder.
has nothing to do with it not starting.
What is it doing before it wont start? Does it turn over? Igintion lights come on? Fuel pump prime?
-
in 02 is just a service reminder, elaborate on 'it wont start'... is the engine turning over? http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=91975.0
EDIT:jsut too fast for me mikester

The engine won't turn over. I can't explain it much better than this: when I turn the key it goes wooo wooo...woo...wooo.....wo.... and nothing.
Engine is a 1.4 AEX too if that helps.
-
What year is it? Not sure if it would be an imobiliser issue on a 1.4, as im not sure if they have them. Dont think they do.
I presume the woo woo is the fuel pump priming.
Ignition switch? although dont normally break over night, its normally a grudual trouble starting with the key, over time.
Starter motor? Tried giving it a wack?
-
It's a 96.
Haven't tried giving it a wack, reckon I should?
-
Well the starter motors can get stuck, and giving them a wack frees them up.
Although i doubt its your problem.
Very odd that over night its stopped working. Previous to today, have you had any problems?
-
Nope, no problems. Sailed through the NCT (Irish MOT equivilent) last week.
I'll go outside and give it a wack and see what happens.
-
Ok went out and watched as the key was turned. The belt on the left side of the engine (timing belt? I don't know much about this stuff :embarassed:) Turns a little then stops, then turns some more and stops but won't keept going. It looks the same as the belt on the bottom left in this picture (not my car)

So is it not turning over then.
-
Nope, not turning over. Any ideas for why/how to fix?
-
Could be an ign barrel fault.
Belt hasnt snapped has it? Take oil cap off and look at the cam when someone cranks it.
-
Think you can see the cam from the oil cap? Isnt there a plastic guard over the cam?
-
Sorted, turned out that the battery was almost dead. Charged up and all is well now!
Thanks for the help anyway guys
I'll get a Haynes manual ASAP to learn more about the engine so I won't have to make silly threads like this in future

Just for future reference Mr Mikester, the 1.4's do indeed have an immobiliser.
