Title: Central Locking issue VR6
Post by: hammonds on 17 July 2009, 15:16
I've got a problem with the central locking on my VR6 5 door.  Been working absolutely fine with no issue.  Went to use my car today though and the pins wouldn't come up, but the alarm beeped to say i had unlocked the thing. tried it again, and got the 2 beeps to tell me i had locked the thing, and also the the whirring from the pump as it normally would do when i lock the thing.

To be honest i wouldn't actually be too fussed seeing as i can still get into my car by sticking the key in the door, but the problem i have is i can't actually open the boot, which will eventually become quite annoying.  Not sure if this is because the boot has had a different lock fitted to it at some point or if its to do with the central locking problem.

Kept trying the locking and sometimes when i go to unlock it i can here the pump make a small whir but nothing happens with the pins. If i pull all the pins up then go to lock the thing, all the pins drop and the car locks as it should.

Any ideas?

Cheers

how long did the whir last??? if it lasted long then there is a air leak somewhere as one of the hoses has come loose or has broken...are you sure everything is connected all properly?

Found the problem.  Where it rained so hard last night, a small amount of water has leaked through the light housing (another thing to have a look at).  Swapped the pump with the one in my GTi for now.

Took a hairdryer to the wet pump and its improved it slightly, gonna let it dry out over night and hope for the best.
