I saw a thread about three to six months ago about special "pods" that you could get to fit in that large hole behind the gear leaver and turn it into a useful second cubby hole, etc.... think they were about ?15-?20.
I laughed it off at the time, but now that useless space is starting to bug me. It's good for jumpers / small jackets, not much else... aeverythign else jsut rattles / slides around.
Can anbody remember where you can buy these pods / if they're any good?
thanks all!

Fitting one of these fills some space and is quite useful.

Mine should arrive any day now.? I'll post a pic when fitted.
Or, what about this? I don't know if there is a difference in RHD/LHD for these things.

Thanks JTE - that's the sort of thing I'm after... thought I'd seen one that was a mix between those two. It gave you a small pocket at the bottom, storage for 4-8 Cd's (much the same as your e-bay link, maybe not quite as slick) and then had a Mk4/Audi-style slide out cup holder..... then a small tray at the top.
-
You don't ask for much do you!! :D
What you describe sound great. I presume it fills the whole space.
I am going to start searching!!
-
i have a c-box.. got it from espeedup.com which is an italian site
cost me about 35 quid in the end.
they're quite hard to get
-
Oversewer - just tried that website and seems they dont do it anymore. I looked in the Mk 3 section but nada.
-
are you meaning the centre console in front of the gear stick cos that's well useful for lobbing keys and fags, etc.
some people pop their headunit there and put gauges up the top.

call me overseer ken :P
and they still sell it, here's the link

:)

JTE - no I'm never too demanding ";D"
Yes, Dizzie, that gap... I have a side door pocket for that stuff... don;t use the big pocket 'cos stuff rattles around in there...
Yes JTE - fills up the entire pocket...
I'm thinking that maybe a TMtuning one cut down to allow enough space for the C-Box to fit in on top..... hmmmm.... will have to think about it.
Car's gotta go in for new CV boots and I'm tkaing the plunge and getting new suspension done at the same time... no spare cash for ANYTHING right now!!!
-
you could move you headunit down there and put gauges where the headunit use to be. you can get 4 along that ridge there. or put 4 gauges down in the centre console?

i'm thinking of getting the fischer cd holder for my car. have a chap in germany willing to send a few if people are interested, much cheaper than what u find on ebay!
-
I got mine from this ebay seller in germany
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38784&item=2487871753&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
?33 + ?10 postage. Arrived today, 6 days after buying.
Thats just under ?30. Which is cheaper than most.
-
Dizzie - think you're missing the point - I want extra CD / cup holder storage in the middle... not more guages.
Fischer storage (and the other CD racks) all look good... post some pics once it's installed please!
-
there are pics of mine in my gallery dude
-
Had a look in your Gallery 'seer mate.
So with the one u got there's still a gap underneath.
Do any of the others fill it completely?
-
i dont think they do :(
i think due to the shape of the gap left they couldnt fit anymore cd slots in anyways.. stuff a duster or something down there i guess? :)
-
the cup holders fill the bottom of that gap ;)
-
i dont use cups in the car.. i buy vanilla coca cola bottles and put em in the drivers door pocket.. no chances for spillage then..
-
I tend to get cans.... need to see if they fit... I just can't be @r$?d with a big curved storage pocket right in front of me the whole time - everything just slides from side to side as you go around corners and flies out and wraps itself around the gear level / end up in the footwell on hill starts....
-
i cant put up with anything sliding around :)
-
Neither can i ;)
Like things in their place and secure. :D
-
Here's my fitted Fischer box. I'm really pleased with it.

i see yours doesnt fit up in the top right properly either.. mine does that :(
-
No, not quite. Shadows in these pics make it worse, it's a gap of a couple of mm's. It was quite a big gap but some brute force closed it up a bit. Damn annoying, but at least you can't see the gap from the seats.
Is yours really ferocious when you open the trays? Mine shoot out like mad.
-
hehe yeah tis a bit wild sometimes :)
-
So sounds to me like this:-
Ya spend approx ?30 for sumthin that dont fill the hole and is also a poor fit!?
Uh 'scuse me, why bother?
Glad i aint paid out for one yet
-
Stop whinging, it's only ?30 and it fits almost perfectly. :D

Thats what i like to hear optimism.
Almost!? lol

There's a gap of 2mm in the top right hand corner that you can't see unless you put you head down by the gear stick (just wait for your girlfriend to notice it ;D), other than that it's very snug.
I think it's the best think for filling the big hole, especially if you have an mp3/WMA player as you can probably fit your whole cd collection in one neat tidy case.
-
Actually i do think i'm gonna get one.
My son-in-law had one in one of his Golfs and it did look o.k.
And it will tidy up that hole and leave space for the headunit remote etc.
-
jte only got 2 cd's? :D
-
jte only got 2 cd's?? :D
I'm hoping to get another one for christmas ;D
They're the only two wma cd's i've had time to make yet. I'm quite lazy.
-
dose any body knowif you can get these for mini discs?? i have the cd one but no use so if anybody wants it you can have it free . i am in northwest tho
-
actually, i've just got a 40gb ipod, and to be honest, once you've got one of these babies, having cd's just seems like such an old concept. Infact, i'm currently builing a custom ipod dock, that will use that center console hole up nicely :D
btw - unless you get a left-hooker center console section, then you ain't gonna be able to fit the cup holder, as the first section of the console is left and right hand drive specific.

I've never seen a minidisc one before.

I've found if you put an A-Z map in this hole, then a small yoghurt based drink that "tops up your good bacteria" wedges in snugly. Don't wedge it in too hard though as excessive acceleration can cause the drink to catapult out at horrific speed and the consequences of this don't need explaining. I have a 10 disc changer in the boot and no CD slot in my head unit so don't really need cd storage. ?30 quid saved.
