Have a mate who says the uk gti mk5 mechanically spec-wise is different to the german (and certain other parts of europe) model, and infact is closer to the GL or GT model or something like that. I.e. Basically that it's lower performance.
Is there any truth in this?

To my knowledge he is talking shiza.

No...

I have a feeling that some markets (possibly Ireland) don't have automatic Climate control, but I may be wrong.

You are correct with that statement about Ireland.
:edit: Well at least I thought you where until I found this on the Irish VW website - http://www.volkswagen.ie/configurator/index.cfm?fuseaction=vw.Standard&variantID=6543
I have 100% seen an Irish GTI without climate control.
-
I'm pretty sure that climate control was an optional extra instead of standard over here.
-
The GTI engine, chassis etc are standard throughout the EU. Interior specifications can be different from country to country and some get uk cost extra's as standard, but as I've said mechanically they are all the same. :nerd:

Weird. I couldnt agree/disagree with him either way as i flat out didnt know. Whats the deal with USA? Does anyone know which Mk's were weaker there than in the EU?

In the US I believe they have a limited top speed on some VW models. They do tend to have a high spec as standard though. eg GTI has standard Xenons.

YES
I have Holland basic spec and it's much better than UK basic spec.
I Gordon Brown to blaim.

DSG was standard in the US also..... not too many people happy about that :lipsrsealed:

The US ones had cheaper seats - just take a look at the photos  - and cheaper suspension - just take a look at the ride height. I am sure I read a lot of other differences a couple of years back. But at the end of the day, that is because US customers are only paying around £12k (that was 2 years ago) so they get what they pay for
