I have got a 2001 Y plate 2.0 GTI Golf and have acquired a resistor that claims to increase my power from 5bhp up to 25bhp!!? to achieve this I need to locate the Inlet Air Temp sensor.?
Apparantly the sensor tells the mgmt system that the engine is running colder than it is and this increases the sparks in the engine, thus giving more power.
Can anyone help me with doing this or indeed has anyone tried increasing the power output this way.?
BTW I am a novice to this......

You'll make your car run rich and knacker the engine, there is no cheap way to get a signigicant bhp increase from modern engines.
Save for a remap/exhaust/filter, and chuck the resistor in the bin :-\ (or sell it to a burberry sporting nova driving spotty chav ;D )

yeah those chips are well bad.
bet option is start with the basics like Tophuh said. Get the engine breathing a bit better. you could take the cat off, but it's a pain putting it back on every year to pass the MOT.
a remap will work best after you've put these items on as the mapping will take that into account. you can also look at more lairy cams to gain some more bhp in the rev range.
short of that you're looking at expensive work being done like headwork and balancing parts. or a turbo bolted on ;D
