Post by: louis_23 on 16 July 2009, 00:00
duno what is with my paint work on car but when ever i wash it it i always have to polish n wax it after just to get rid of the dry dull look left by warter marks. it means i have to go all out every time i wash my car cant just give it a quick mid week wash and a good weekend wash it has to be a bloody good weekend wash in mid of week aswell  lol

is there a product that can stop this or is it a case of paint work has not been look after by previous owners and only a respray would fix it now? thanx guy's

Two products spring to mind:

It is possible to buy filters that you put on the end of your hosepipe which filter out the stuff in the water that causes the water marks. You should be able to get one from a good detailing supplies website.

Also, have you thought about using a Quick detailer after you dry the car? I am currently using Meguiars Final Touch. It's about £16 for a gallon but last for absolutely ages. You'll need a sprayer to put in it (£3). Just spray onto the paintwork and wipe off with a microfibe cloth. Gets rid of watermarks and leaves a lovely wet look shine on your paint. Plus it only takes minutes.

This product is saving me loads of time. It means you can get that fantastic finish that you get from a 'big clean' but in much less time so I only have to 'top up' my wax layer about once a month.

final touch is probably the thing you need although you could try http://www.waxamomo.co.uk/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=192&idcategory=3 (http://www.waxamomo.co.uk/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=192&idcategory=3) and let us know how it works out for you

incidentally, what are you using to actually dry your car with? i struggled with a chamois for years and then found using a waffle a hundred times better

Wax it Wet is what you need. Get it from halfords, spray on wet car, wipe to a haze with a waffle drying towel. It dries off on it's own and leaves a streak free blinging finish. Result.

Sorry if I missed it but what drying towel are you using? We have just taken stock of these and they are brilliant:

As said before, Meguiar's Last Touch is a great product, and Dodo Juice Time to Dry is a a dedicated product to help dry the car without leaving water marks.

Oh and don't forget the discount code to get £5 off your order: gimme5

Oh yeah those waffle drying towels are very good. I just started using the Sonus der wunder drying towel and it's awesome. Much quicker than a regular chamois.

I'd try a microfibre drying towel, mine is awesome.

Also, make sure you go round it a couple of times drying it, water tends to drip down from the wing mirrors and seals on mine and I spot them later on and GRRR

Hope you find a solution :)

I know what you mean, whenever me and my mates finished washing / drying and waxing the car etc we usually take the car out for a quick 2 min journey round some round abouts and whatever else which usually gets the remaining bits of water out.

With the last touch, do you make sure the car is dry before putting it on? Surely there is a cheaper way of making sure there are no water marks? Dry it it before the wind drys the water marks in? Or does this still give it a wet look as well?

You don't need to wait for your car to be dry to use Last Touch.

Last Touch can be used as a drying aid, so you spray as your drying with your towel.

Don't wash it in the dun so the car drys fast. Wash it in the cooler evenings. So you dry it rather than the sun bake the marks on.

or wash it a panel at a time working from the top down... its not too hard to rinse it and then dry it as you go along

Yeah, sometimes i do this if i dont have time later in the day. Wash a side at a time, and the roof, boot, and bonnet seperatly.
