OK I was going to risk driving around on my German plates as we have with the mk1 for a few months now and not been pulled up yet.
I always thought that if you did get stopped for it the max was a ?30 fine and maybe a producer, ut the otherday someone said you can get points for it, is this true?
Of course will have the uk plates in the car and the "oh I forgot to change them over" will be said when it happens
-
not sure...
check this...
DVLA (http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/endorsem.htm)
-
Adam got a ?30 fine for his plates (I think, no doubt he'll tell me if I'm wrong) but nothing else.
We had the german plates on mk2 been on for nearly a year and not been stopped either!!
-
Ok thanks all I can find is
Offences may result in any or all of the following:
A fine of up to ?1,000
The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN
The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test
I have e-mailed them asking about points etc.. will see if they reply
-
what really annoys me is that twits in their jags and range rovers with there poxy initials for the reg constantly get away with illegal spacing, but when we try it we're given producers and fines >:(
-
No answer from the DVLA just a auto responce that says they are very busy and your question won't be answered until late next week!
-
i thoughts points were given for dangerous activities, like speeding, drink driving parking on zigzags (can never remember there right name) and stuff. ::)
Ive never heard of anyone getting points for number plates. I dont think there would be so many german plates on the dub scene if that was true. who would take a risk like that :o
go on, get em on there ;) 8)

They will be going on this weekend, all ready for action :)
-
Ok stupid DVLA have sent a e-mail saying "You will have problems when the time comes to tax the car"
I have writen back asking why ??? and re asking the questions, they didn't answer the part about a fine or points etc...
-
Son-in-Law has a plate B111 YVW - his name is Billy.
If he spaces it to form BillY VW he gets stopped. He was told that if he gets stopped for that reason again he with get a fine and 3 points.

Se it gets more and more confusing! DVLA say they can't help me! Maybe I should just ring my local police station and see what they have to say about it?

points baaaad

points baaaad
Yes very!!!!
-
OK rang my local P station they were very unhelpfull!
In teh end I got out of them that it would be down to teh officer that stopped you as to if points or just a fine, I asked what the law was on it and "They don't really know" ask the DVLA
I am going round in circles, time to give up!

The maximum fine's and points are banded about to try and frighten people into toeing the line. The maximum punishments are intended for repeat offenders who blatantly take the p!ss.
Getting pulled over a couple of times every six months won't land you in this category.
This is exactly the same as car tax. In my younger days I was stopped a couple of times for having no tax, but was never fined the ?1000 that was always threatened.
As for not getting any help from the DVLA, I'm not surprised, as they're a bunch of two-faced robbers!!!
At the end of the day, they sell you number plates for thousands of pounds that (for the most) mean nothing, unless you play with the spacing and/or letters, yet they tell you in big disclaimers that you shouldn't do it, and that if you shouldn't buy the plate if thats your intention!!! What a joke. Why would you spend thoudsands on a plate that says nothing, unless you were going to have a fiddle with it s it looked like something???!!!
They know full well that unless you really ignore the police after being stopped 10 times in a week for having a dodgy plate, you aren't going to get the big fine, but because they are a government establishemnt, they have to agree with the police, so they avoid answering your questions.

to be honest... if you were involved in a crash with someone who had german plates on their car.. or someone you know was involved in a hit? + run by someone in a car with those plates on wouldnt you be pissed off they couldnt be traced?
you may get away with driving a LHD car with german plates on.. until they spot the tax disk..
but if you crash.. even if you're not to blame the insurance companies may use it as an excuse not to pay out..
drive with normal plates on, and if u want it to look nice for shows swap them over.
-
Is it just the greman plates from like dub meister or u going for full on german plates ???
-
I got proper German plates through Dubm
They say G6 - LTD so yes they have the dash, I know I will get away with the front one cause it is white but the back one is also white not yellow!
-
got a friend with a Tigra on Italian plates, and i think he's driven around for 3 years on them without a problem, although he does get the car MOT'd yearly though.

Right they are going on but with valcro, and the UK plates are being kept in the car with velcro on too, so if I do get stoped I can say I forgot to change them and can show that I have the UK plates on me and then I can change them there and then, that should keep the P happy.
Going to get the german plates off the mk1 and put valcro on them too.
