Hi All
Anyone been offered the 3 year fixed price servicing from their dealer?? (£250.00).
Seems like a good deal, just wondering if anyone knows of any problems/catches with it.
You do have to pay the £250.00 up front but it seems a lot cheaper than 3 full price services.

i pay £25 odd a month for servicing under the VW scheme thing, i've had no probs when it comes to service - when its due you take it in and its "free"!! don't know if its the same thing you are talking about but i would assume it will be as hassle free as mine is.

£25 a month (£300 a year) seems expensive.
The one thats on the VW site is £250 paid up front and its for the first 3 years to cover the servicing. This just covers the basic service (oil change etc..).
My dealer does that one plus a different one where it costs £330, and what you get for this is the first 3 years servicing a full check of the car to see if any items that require replacing through the warranty when it goes in for a service and the first MOT. Again this is paid up front and I am going to go ahead and get it. Its deffo worth while if your keeping your car for 3 years.

considering when i had my mk5 i put it through 3 services each on average of £200 its a good deal, but whats included?.....

it is quite expensive, but the way i look at it is that i wouldn't save that money every month, i would spunk the cash, so at least i don't have a bill come service time! go for it!

Could you not pay a one off payment of £250 for 3 years srevicing rather than forking out £25 per month

your first 3 years service's, unless your dealer does their own specific one like mine does for £330

What's the score with servicing by non-dealers during the warranty period?
The dealer I'm buying from is 25 miles away, in the wrong direction for getting to work. They will do a courtesy car with about 10 days notice, but it's still inconvenient. The dealer I'm not buying from (because his discount was a lot less!) is 17 miles away, in the right direction for work, but right in the city and realistically I'd still need a courtesy car. I have heard that one of the city VW dealers is prepared to come to pick up the car from the work car park, leave a courtesy car, and deliver the serviced car back when it's done. That's quite attractive though I don't know what they charge. I presume any dealer can service a car after it's bought though, it doesn't have to be the one you bought it from?
On the other hand there is a good, small independent garage 10 minutes walk from my house, with a bus stop outside it where I can catch a bus to work (or just arrange to be picked up by a workmate who drives the same road to work). I trust this guy because he gives a very personal service, and he did wonders with my old Peugeot after it had mostly been serviced by dealers throughout its life. He's also very reasonable.
Is VW likely to make any trouble about the warranty on a new car if it hasn't been serviced by a dealer, though?

Not sure they're allowed to do that anymore.
I thought that there was some legislation a few years ago to stop car manufacturers tying people to their own dealers, you'll need to check the fine print on the warranty (it may just require genuine VW parts are used).
Obviously your local guy is a lot more convenient but can he beat £250 for 3 years servicing??

Wrong. As long as he uses genuine parts (or at least parts to OEM specifications - but safest bet is to use genuine parts) and follows the OEM schedule of works his service is perfectly valid for warrantly purposes.
Not a bad idea to get a VW garage to look at it now and again though. As there are sometimes software updates etc that are not rolled out as a mandatory recall but are addressed everytime a customers car comes into the dealer network...

I thought that was the case now. I thought I'd heard that it was forbidden for manufacturers to mandate dealer servicing on pain of the warranty being void. It#s so long since I've had a car in warranty that I wasn't entirely sure though.

That's a good piece of advice.
Actually, as it's only once a year for the first three years (I think) I might just get the dealer to do it anyway. But It's good to know the options.
Is there still a "first service" after a relatively short distance that's included with the price of the car? If so, I imagine I'll make the effort to use the dealer I'm buying from for that one.

The 250 fixed servicing plan is on the vw configurator. I've opted for it :)
The monthly thing is different, when I spoke to a dealer this includes maintenance as well, ie things like wipers. At nearly 700 quid I decided not to go for that as I won't do many miles. For higher mileage peeps it could be worth it.

that's what i have then! should know that really! makes sense as have had 2 sets of new wipers and never paid a bean for them, and i do do (he he!) quite high mileage. thanks for clearing that up!

As far as I know you can get it serviced elsewhere (using genuine parts and as per the schedule) but I think they need to be a VAT registered garage don't they? i.e. not just some bloke from the pub.
As someone has said, it's good for it to go to the main dealer occasionally to get the software flashes updated, especially on a new model. Also, main dealer stamps can make the car easier to sell later if that bothers you at all.
For £250 that servicing deal is pretty good value and i'd probably have it.

Yep, as long as the work is done with genuine parts using a VAT registered garage you are in the clear with warranties. I would however probably get the biggy services, or at least the last one before the warranty runs out done by a VW dealer just so they can change any parts that are dodgy before you've got to cough up for them yourself (see, I could be Scottish too).
Another recommendation I would throw in would be to have the car serviced annually rather than the time and distance regime but using the higher grade T&D oil. This would ensure the engine is kept in the best possible internal condition if you are keeping the car beyond the warranty period. Obviously for those hiring their cars though PCP or whatever that is pretty irrelevant!
