Title: Water inside of boot (Where spare tyre is kept)
Post by: luke0380 on 14 July 2009, 23:45: has anyone had this problem before ?

I opened the boot today and noticed in the corner on the carpet that covers the spare wheel it was wet ..... now i have noticed this before but put it down to a bottle of water i had in the boot which could of leaked.

Anyway i lifted the carpet up and there quite a substantial amount of water in the well where the tyre was and underneath the carpet.

Not sure how it would of got it , and it has been raining on and off the last few days.

Car is still under warranty so i will have to speak to them about it i guess, but just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Post by: Spaced on 15 July 2009, 08:22: I had this happen once and I am convinced it was that the tailgate wasn't shut properly as it has never happened again.

rear washer jet? possibly. If that doesn't work then the pipe might have disconnected therefore washer fluid is being pumped into the spare wheel well instead of the nozzle on the tailgate.

Post by: luke0380 on 19 July 2009, 11:26: Booked in for tuesday next week , along with some other stuff i've asked them to do. They got the car for two days.

I did take some pictures of the water in the boot this morning as it has been raining all night.

I asked the Steeler if i could have a MARK 6 Golf as a car but they said they don't have any in their fleet..... Only got a whole gargage full of them ! , how are they expected to sell mark 6 cars if i can't even get one as a coutersy car.

Post by: DaveN on 19 July 2009, 12:24: I had the same problem after my car was repaired after being rear ended, it was down to an air vent that is behind the bumper on the side that was not replaced properly resulting in when it rained the water collecting in the spare wheel area.

I fixed it myself but it does involve partially removing the bumper, tell the dealer when you are going in and they can do it.

Not nesessarilly!

It could be pin holes in the flange welding at the top seam near the tailgate hinges, or the actual tailgate seal - both very common probs.

And if you have a sunroof, it can be either incorrectly sited rear drain tube outlets, squashed drain tubes, or even faulty sunroof frame (which was my prob).
