Title: GTI vs R32 Weston Performance RR Day 2009
Post by: davefish on 14 July 2009, 20:10

Saturday 26th of Sep 09 - http://www.westonperformance.com (http://"http://www.westonperformance.com/dyno/dyno-days/")

The 2008 Weston meet started from a group of MkV owners based in the Midlands wanting to meet up to discuss/view modifications. We decided a Rolling Road day at Weston Performance would be a good location. Soon we attracted the attention of several MkV GTI owners and took a bit of light hearted stick from MkIV R32 owners for not being invited (which wasn't the case!). Anyway, the day was enjoyable and the addition of a few modified GTI's added some spice (you kicked our buts!). This year we're having a GTI (MkV Only) vs R32 (MkV & MkIV) theme. Each side will compete for the highest average bhp figure. Ideally it would be good to have 10 a side (it doesn't matter if one side has more than the other) but we need a minimum of 5 a side. This is only a bit of fun so please don't be put off if you're stock! There are no cash prizes, just the honour of being the 2009 team champions ;-)

Titles:
1. Team with the highest average BHP
2. Most powerful GTI
3. Most powerful R32

We will also be collecting data such as mileage, modifications, fuel etc... for each participant and post up the data after the event. This could give a useful insight into which intake, fuel, remap etc... gives the best gains.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The cost is £45 per car (normally £70 when booked independently). We need 10 people paid by Saturday 19th September to secure this event (25 max). If we can't hit the number, everyone who has paid will be given a refund so there is no risk. To secure your place call Weston Performance on 01217 092 300 and ask for Paul (9am-5pm weekdays 9am-2pm Saturday). State that you wish to book a place on the R32OC RR day, pay the £45 and give him your R32OC forum username.

The meet will take place at Weston HQ (B90 4NG (http://"http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=B90+4NG&ie=UTF8&ll=52.399067,-1.801758&spn=2.560844,7.141113&z=8&iwloc=addr")) from 9:30am onwards with the first car likely to go on the rollers at 10am.

Please don't leave it until the last minute!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Weston Performance are regarded as one of the foremost testing facilities in the UK, due to the combination of their purpose built dyno cell and the Dyno Dynamics rolling road diagnostic capabilities. They have perhaps the most advanced dyno cell in the UK, so much so that they carry out controlled dyno testing and research and development for some of the 'Toca Tour' British touring car teams, not to mention many other independent race teams in the UK. Read more (http://"http://www.westonperformance.com/dyno/dyno-days/")

They're located away from main roads on a large business park with a few roundabouts so there should be ample opportunity for us to have a seat in different cars to experience Milltek, ARB's, etc... while we wait our turn to go on the rollers. I have already been and can vouch that they're a good, professional outfit.

I will call Paul each week to confirm payments but feel free to post on here once completed and I will update your status on R32OC (will still be checked with Paul).

redundancy required some "re-structuring" .. going back to a mk4. I currently own a mk1 gti, mk2 rallye, mk4 turbo and mk5 R32 .. hoping to be down to just the mk4 by september!

Anyway just so i dont get accused of going off topic :lipsrsealed:

The guys at Weston are top lads, and probably the most accurate 4wd dyno in the midlands!

That would have to be 10 REVO stage 2+ ED30's then to beat Andy and Bam

I think you should go for WHP, that way, with the 4WD losses the GTI's may stand a chance

I'm already organising an RR day for the locals in Sheffield in October. RS Tuning in Leeds - Dyno Dynamics Rollers just like Westons.

It will also be the ......err......4th RR day I've been to this year

Superchips Dyno results were a little "generous" as I managed 363bhp and 362lbft.

Not fair on the mk5 guys (gti) if mk4 R32's go. Andy has about 500bhp i think lol

Hehe, there will likely only be 1 or 2 FI guys there (maybe none!). We can't seem to hit 280bhp N/a even with zorst, intake, cams and remap where as ed30's get to 300+ pretty easily. It should be even.
