So my standard system has given up the ghost and sounds like a frecking tank, hence the need to replace it. I've been looking into various bits that are being sold on the site and was wondering how aftermarket units fit on small bumper models? I've see a few small bumpers with these but they generally tend to stick out lke a sore thumb, looking pretty lame if i say so myself.
Is lots of modification needed to get it to sit right or do they sell specific small bumper exhausts? Sorry if this a proper nooby question i just i'v never looked into exhausts really as i've only done engine stuff :)

Most of the off the shelf stuff is tailored for the BB cars and do look a little OTT on a SB car. The exhaust on the track toy looks bloody stupid now I've gone small bumper but never mind, not a show car though so who cares, ha ha.

Ah i thought so much :( Bummer!
I've thought about modification but thinking about it now, the bend to go over the rear beam would have to be re-shaped and bent in order for the exhaust to be moved back under the car more, correct me if i'm wrong?

Yeah it's all in the tail pipe bit really. All the off the shelf stuff would benefit from chopping an incch off the tail pipes.

See the problem there is if you cut the end off you'd lose any type of inwardly/outwardly rolled finish and it'd look turd :( Bloody small bumpers god dammit!
Anyone else shed any light on this?

Hmm not really what I was looking at. I have considered a single pipe but wasn't really feeling it.

I had a few custom longlifes on small bumpers, had an SS "replica"
on my early Mk2 with single 2.5" pipe exit and painted in back box
Also used Std 16v back box with custom unit up to down pipe, new oversize pipe cut and welded into std B box.
Big shiney exhausts on small bumpers tend to look wrong if not done
with care. :wink:
Up rated mounts are essential, seen so many Mk2s with the back box swinging around not good

It depends what you want to do with the car. I saw your car today and it seems in good fettle and worth working on. Once you have done your engine swap, you could look at upgrading the bumpers to big ones, then really, any exhaust will suit it.

There is an option for big bumper here, so I would assume the non big bumper one is small bumper :wink:
Edit: Sod it, link did not work.. :angry: Just look at piper full exhaust systems on venom motorsports. :smiley:

they do stick out a fair bit, this is mine, i got mine for £30 off a 8v gti which was originally small bumper but had big bumpers fitted but for the price i paid i aint gonna complain

did you get the proper jetex replacement rear hanger with the exhaust? not always included if the zaust is 2nd hand

Yep, had everything as it was virtually brand new. It seemed to me that the bracket on the backbox itself was far too long, so i flogged it onto someone with big bumpers, and he was chuffed with it.

mine sat too low even with the jetex bracket, ended up doing a bit fo cut and weld and it sits alot higher now, still not great but alot better.

If the length is an issue, cut it off at box, cut off the excess tailpipe and weld back on.
Don't know what the fuss is about.....

I've had a look at the tail pipe and it looks like Its got baffles on the inside, if you cut the tailpipes at the box would that not render the baffles useless? I'm really not clued up on exhausts as this is the first aftermarket one ive bought.

I reversed into a kerb which has buckled my downpipe, so I'm using it as an excuse to pretty much get a whole new system. Anyone know if this exhaust (http://www.supersprintuk.com/golf-ii-18-gti-8v-84-92-c-78_196_262_294.html) is the same one as pictured above?

its a sportex backbox, im going custom anyway so the tip just meets the valance

if you just want a free exhaust for a mk2 give me a shout...got one doing nowt...mid section from a Scorpion system and backbox is a standard...its free if you wanna collect.

No it's not, but it's very similar. The one in the pic is a twin oval tailpipe, but they don't make it anymore. The one that you have linked to is a twin round tailpipe. Like i said though, they look very similar in size.
