Title: what OIL do you use and where to buy from
Post by: whit on 14 July 2009, 15:35: what spec/brand of oil do you use and where do you buy from?

i've always used a semi-synthetic for my standard 8v

is this ok or is there anything to be gained from using something more advanced/expensive?

where is the cheapest place to buy oil from (not halfords - too expensive!), i'm guessing main dealers is a rip off. is GSF any good?

in the past i've paid around £12 for 5 litres

Not sure on cost as it was a long time ago I got some but it is available from VW.

Post by: Ess_Three on 14 July 2009, 16:12: Synta Gold fully synthetic...only got 80k on the engine and it gets revved to 7400, so feel comfortable with the fully synthetic stuff in there - and it's not as thin as the likes of Mobil 1.

I bought a bulk load of 4 or 5 crates of it years ago when a local garage was closing down...so had around 20 5 litre tubs of it...
Still got a dozen or so left.

Not sure either but it is cheaper than from my dads mates shop!
VW are cheaper than most for oil and filters etc well Driftbridge in Epsom are anyway and you get genuine parts.
