Was on the M6 today and some noob slightly swerved off the carriageway then bang - chip the size of a 10p  Been on to the insurance and was stumped by the tint question (never really noticed). Read another post about putting some paper on and if I place this on the inside to me it looks greenish from viewing from the outside - is it more likely I will have a green tint (June 2007)? Also does anyone know if it will be an OEM screen (like for like) or non-OEM and maybe slight differences?
Told them about rain sensor but do they need to know anything else before they turn up with a screen (do any options like winter pack effect this?)
Out of interest how much would a screen cost down the stealers?

If yours is 07 then it will be green. Blue tint (like mine :)) was only on the R32 (I think) and earlier models.
Chances are it wont be a gen VW one. I was with Elephant when I got a chip and got into a MASSIVE argument with them as they refused to give me a gen VW windscreen. I gave up in the end as it was just taking up too much time arguing with them and getting no where. I ended up with one of their (Auto-Glass) screens which is IDENTICAL in every way other than it not having a little VW sticker in the corner. What glass company have you been referred to?
You wouldnt know that its a replacement screen (unless you look for a VW logo in the corner obviously)

Hi Alan - thanks for prompt reply - told them to bring a green tint
I'm with switft cover and they use Auto Windscreens - reading this companies website looks like they manufacture their own screens  The chip is on the passenger side so suspect they might push for a repair given it is not in line of sight for the driver. Bit dubious about a full replacement, I don't like "stuff" being different to when the car left the factory - bit worried about increasing the wind noise if a botch job or the rain sensor not working properly  Maybe I should trust these guys instead of worrying! Have you had any problems with your replacement?
My current screen is scratched to hell so maybe a new screen would be good

I was told to just have it repaired but no amount of resin injection will ever remove a chip, the screen was perfectly safe but I wanted to have a new one so paid the excess and got a new one fitted. Not had any problems with the new one. The thread I started ages ago appears to have been lost in the great server crash of 2008 which is a shame as there was some good advice in it. If you have the patients and time you can go to trading standards if Swift Cover refuse to give you a VW windscreen as according to some knowledgeable people on here they are not allowed to refuse you one (which they will do when you ask as its about x4 the cost).
