Hi all
Im mainly based in the Harlow / Essex area most of the time.
Just rang a local VW dealer as my car needs its first service next month - he quoted me £225 for a T&D, or £365 for a LL service!!! Thats just an engine oil and filter change!!!
Im looking for any VW approved Indy's, or other good dealers - as it shouldnt really cost me more the £150 should it?
Im willing to travel a little if need be...
Any recommendations??
Cheers

Im after a long life service, even though Im on T&D, since I want LL oils to be used.
I just tried another VW dealer. VERY LUCKILY I got a leaflet through the post about this dealer, which was addressed to the previous owner of my house, who moved years ago! So I thought I would give this dealer a try.
They are about 17 miles away from me - the same service for..............wait for it...................£124.14!
I'll deffo be going here. This guy seemed to know what he was talking about over the phone when it came to servicing and oils etc - stating they used Castrol LL oil as well. My local dealer hardly knew the difference between T&D and LL servicing! I cant believe how much they tried to rip me off for!
Had a bit of a chat with him, and he said he was getting a lot of business from around the London area - all going up to him due to the massive price difference!! Hw couldnt believe how much I had been quoted!
Since they are a VW dealer, all parts will be VW approved etc. He said he just looks up the prices of the parts etc on the VW database, and adds their labour, as per normal.
He then went on to tell me my most expensive service at year 4, will be £367 - and that INCLUDES the DSG oil change was well (which they usually do for around £130!).
Hopefully their service will be quite good, and they'll have got themselves a new customer!!
Seems like they are a little more trustworthy then my local dealership already!!

2 other VW dealers have said they will ring me back with prices shortly......
Any bets on whether they will even bother ringing back or not?!

If you don't have any luck with above there is an independant at Marks Tey near Colchester who my Father uses for Polo and A4 avant and is extremely good and competeive compared to Main Dealers.

£120 is a good quote. The highest I got was £200. I ended up paying around £150 but then I couldn't get the car to the dealer who sold it to me in the first place (on friendly terms).
If the car wasn't in warranty, I would have gone to a local garage who would have done the job for around £40 (with me supplying oil and filter).

Yes - all official VW dealerships.
Amazing how much the price varies between them!
I tried Abridge VW, in both Harlow and Loughton. The prices I put in the first post were from Harlow.......they quoted me £225 for a T&D, or £365 for a LL service.
VW in Loughton was even worse - £395 for the LL service, and about £280 for the T&D!!
I bet its worse the closer you get into London!

Well I finally got my first service done today from a VW dealer.
The dealer is around 17 miles away from me, since my local dealer wanted to charge just under £400 for an engine oil and filter change! Im assuming they were going to lick the engine clean afterwards as well for that price!
Anyways, got to the dealer (MJ Warner, in Herts) after a fun drive there, since its a lot of country lanes etc to get there
They took the car straight in, and told me it would come to £125 - as quoted.
They said it would take about an hour, to an hour and a half.
The service took around 45 mins - maybe it was quicker as I requested they didnt wash the car?!
Anyways, he came back and LOWERED the price even further.
He said it came to £106 and not £125 as expected!
Labour - £47.60
Filter - £8.73
Cleaner - £2.80
LL3 Oil - £33.60
VAT - £13.91
TOTAL - £106.64
They also did the Express Visual Check etc - which all turned out fine.
Finally, they topped up the washer fluid as well, and gave me the rest of the bottle - which is still over half full. (Is that what I was charged for as 'Cleaner'??).
Overall good service, at a good price.

MJ Warner are a dying breed and the kind of dealer we should all support. Very small family run sole dealer in a tiny village in Herts. Hope they can survive against all the local big boys. Another good dealer is Vindis Sawston, the Vindis group are not that great in my opinion and experience but the Sawston dealer still has the same feel and level of service that makes it stand out. Cannot recommend either enough to anybody in the Herts/Cambs area.

Yup true, I've informed MJ Warner to add me to their database, since they'll be my 'local' from now on. Even though they are 17 miles away from me, they are much cheaper then my so-called local dealers, and the drive there is cool!

i have also used mj warner - they are excellent, although if you are taking the loan car for the day you may end up with a baby blue micra! you may wish to take the day off instead or wait around for the service to be completed!!
-
rofl - I saw one of their loan cars parked in the rear car park - a VW Polo.
I just waited around though, since it was a pretty quick service.
