Hi
I'm driving a Golf MKV GTI -07 (a.k.a. Rattle box).
How is the interior build of the MKVI compared to the MKV? Does it rattle as much?
I assume that media cars are preped and are not good to use for comparison.
Thanks!

There were no rattles in the one i drove.. but then again it was a demo model.
-
So far, the two mkVIs GTIs I test drove, the DSG and manual were excellent. The interiors were built superbly. No rattles and in general I thought it was fantastic and of good quality.
-
No rattles from my test drive car either.
-
No rattles in the one I test drove either, interior quality was audi-like. Felt great!
-
I think that was the one thing they absolutely wanted to get right after all the grief with mk5 rattles.
-
i know its early days but ive had mine nearly 2 months and its the most rattle free new car ive ever been in bar none
-
I thought the build quality of the car I test drove was pure class! not a rattle or a squeak out of place it maybe seemed too quiet and with it all being black it was like being in a little cocoon I liken it to being back in the womb.

Mine is back in the garage for the third time because of rattles. I asked to test drive it vs the demo car which was loads worse than mine. Got a call from the guy dealing with it today. Said they think they've solved the problem (loose bits of trim, unsecured wires etc) but they couldn't be sure as they couldn't take it back out again. When I asked why he said they had to order new clips for the door panels because they'd broken them when they took them off. Will be having another chat with the brand manager tomorrow. Also my exhaust note sounds v different to the other gtis I've driven. Does anyone know if this changes as the car loosens up? Mine is v vquiet. Has nearly no exhaust noteat all. It has done 400 miles in 2 weeks. 2/3 of that by the tech guys solving the rattles.

Mines rattle free after a thousand miles but one of the kids kicked the cup holder off in the rear at the weekend and that's a bugger to get back on!
Interior quality easily as good as previous cars (audi & bmw) just a bit uninspiring I reckon.

I've driven two manual demos. I drove one over smoothish roads and didn't notice any rattles. The other one I drove over a bit more interesting roads (different dealer and thus route) and there was an annoying noise from the drivers side back door that sounded like the whole door trim was loose and another rattle from the rear seat or boot area.
My mk5 has about 47k on it and has very few rattles normally (it does vary with the weather a bit).

you must be the luckest mk5 owner ever

Interesting, some have no rattles, some have a lot of rattles. I mostly drive on sh*tty roads so I guess I'll have to expect rattles ... or I'll go BMW 125/135 ... god forbid.

Interestingly I was also considering the BMW 118 or the 120 but after reading the Top Gear review, I went for the GTI...

Well I hate rattles .. my old MK1 A3 didn't rattle one bit. The roads are pretty bad where I live so I need a solid car. The MKV is solid as a Trabant in my opinion. So if the MKVI also rattles like crazy on bad roads my options are limited. Maybe ACC/DCC would do reduce rattles in comfort mode...

the std 17s would prob be a better bet than the 18s as well

Maybe so as my previous one didn't rattle either!
Perhaps I'd better start doing the lottery then if my luck is that good

Mine is also rattle free. I believe the earlier ones were slightly better screwed together. Interestingly there were a couple of screws missing from inside the centre air diffuser when I replaced my HU. That might be a cure for the centre dash rattle so many mk5ers have!

yes you should as ive had 4 brand spankers and everyone them rattled from day one or within 200 miles, ub7rm may have a point as my 1st 05 gti rattled the least
-
My mk5 is rattle free too.
The mk6 I had on test drive seemed very well screwed together and solid. No rattles at all.

My mk6 developed a couple of squeaks a week after getting it, but they soon disappeared

I wish, mine's got a rattle near the driver's door whenever I go over some rough patches and a springy clunk thump from the rear going over large road humps
Have you 1.4 twin charged guys heard of the famous water pump/supercharger clutch squeak? Mine developed one at 7000km and had the water pump replaced. Others are not so lucky as VW issued a service bulletin along the lines that its not a defect
-
Had a mk5 from new and not one squeek ever! (57 plate btw)
Did have the creek problem but soon sorted by the lube stuff they use on the flexible eos
-
Any more rattle reviews on MK6?
I just decided to murder my MKV ... it does not deserve to live.
-
Only had mine 3 days....and 58 miles on it...but no rattles yet
-
over 2000 miles so far, not a squeek.........
