Title: Magnex fitting - please help!
Post by: Crookie on 13 July 2009, 12:07
Hi Everyone

I have purchased the exhaust I have been after for some time - a 6x4 Magnex Oval from the downpipe back (second hand).

The problem I now have is that the clamp on the back of the exhaust box is literally no where the near the hanger on the car! A fitting kit would be ideal, but ibviously Magnex have now gone bust so this isn't an option!

I have seen that quite a few people have had the same problem on here, so was wondering if you could shed some light on how you managed to get round the problem and what you used to support the exhaust as currently I have a Golf on my drive with no exhaust

Thanks in advance

There's a funky metal hangar that bolts onto the underside of the car, and hangs down nice and low - close enough to the backbox to hook a rubber hangar over.  I have one, but I'm afraid you can't have it unless you buy my whole exhaust too!

How much for the whole exhaust?! I need one! Is it a twin tailpipe?

Bummer.  Are you sure the hanger isn;t lurking at the bottom of the box or something like that?  If not, you can secure it for now with cable ties, and then get one made up - it shouldn't be too much £££ as its only a bent bit of steel with a hole in it.

I doubt that cable ties will last very long unless you get super heavy-duty ones, my backbox was rather large and heavy!  Getting one made up from metal would be your best bet I reckon...

if you decide to get a hanger made up get me 1 made as i need 1 for my magnex back box, ring collins performance as they have bought magnex and if you look at their mongoose back box it has an identical hanger bracket, whever i ring them though they have no stock and it might be a few weeks till they have some, they just tell me that every time that i ring them

Cheers guys! No chance of getting a photo of the hanger on the car is there, we are going to try and make our own out of metal and would just like a photo to start us on the way of how it looks and fits?

Thanks mate

i made my own bracket/hanger, then i got a proper magnex 1 but when i fitted it my exhaust hung too low and was off centre so refitted the 1 made and gave away the proper magnex bracket.

i have taken a couple of pics with my mobile phone camera so if you give me your mobile number i'll send you them, although they aren't the best pics you will get the general idea,   all you need is a bit of angle iron, and a piece of 10 mm threaded bar, a welder, a drill and a grinder
