Hi all, i make car review videos for a motoring website, we did the Golf GTI MKVI the other day and here is my video....see what you think? Its only short, comments welcome!

cheers nice one... though if i were being picky it doesn't sound like a massively balanced review. there is little you criticise and i doubt any car is perfect. the price is certainly a big sticking point and many MkV owners have already pointed out that it doesn't move the game on much.
having balance in a review gives much more credibility imo.
otherwise not bad

cheers! All fair points! To be honest though its just a sort of "promo vid" to sit within the actual written review on the motors.co.uk site but i must say we couldn't find much wrong with it! I drive a lot of cars and although i shoot them and don't review them i still spend a lot of time throwing them round the city (leeds) and i must say the Golf is the best car i've driven in ages!!
Your right though; perhaps we could have criticized it a little...hmmmm as you say its not "perfect" but its a really good hunk of metal...I'm thinking of getting one!!! Though might buy a MKV as there a bit of a bargain now imo!
-
Oh and just cause its on a similar sort of level here is my video review of the new Clio Cup, filmed in Portugal on a track event paid for by the good people at Renault...see what you think! Again Comments welcome, don't hold back!!

Nice video. My only criticism would be the background music: it doesn't fit the subject very well, and reminds me a bit of a 1970's porn movie :)

HAHA Yeah, i guess your right!! I'm just not sure thats a bad thing! I chose the music because in my head as i was cutting it i was thinking of how far the GTI had come in 34 years and i wanted the music to be a little "retro" to hark back to the MKI.....so there was method in my madness.....maybe overdid it with the porn feel though!!
-
Great vid in my opinion. I didn't mind the sound track. The video quality was a bit grainy though.
Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Yes, it sounded like a promo film. But if it's part of a series and people know that you will point up bad points of you come across them, then they should understand that you just plain liked this one.
I note that the car driven had some extras on it. Don't you have a policy to say when something is an optional extra, like the ACC? Could be helpful to potential purchasers.
I just realised something. The 18" wheels are undetectable (to me) when the car is in motion. I only notice them when it's stationary.
Rolfe.

I'm a freelancer so my only obligation is to shoot and edit the car.....although i do consider myself a petrol head i'm not totally up to date with whats "standard kit" on all the cars i drive, so i would be pretty unaware of what wasn't standard on a car. However, i see your point and its a good one! I'll mention it to my editor! Cheers!
The videos do run as a series of promos to sit within a full review on the companies website, so as you rightly say...its just a promo really..something to wet your appetite.
I also got to play with this early in the year!!!

Great vid. Pity channel 5 couldn't use it on fifth gear last week.
Rolfe, I can sort of see what your meaning about the wheels when the car is in motion but to be honest the 18's are in a different league when you compare them to the 17's when the car is stationary
-
I just saw the video... it was certainly more lively that the Fifth Gear version. If I were to watch it for the first time and had not read all the reviews about the new GTI, I would have appreciated more technical details like what Rolfe suggested whether ACC was included and how it felt in all the modes. I would also like to hear it being compared to the previous mkV GTI. You know us being humans, we like to compare everything. If not for extra knowledge, its to hear which one is better... the old and the new etc...
In any case, it was a good attempt to showcase the mk6 GTI. Yeah, music was ok... didnt immediately have scantily clad women in my mind when I first heard it... but I was thinking Thunderbirds... ha ha ha

I liked it, it depends on what kind of message you were trying to get across, after looking at your review it would make me wanna learn more about the car and maybe take a test drive, whereas other reviews get more technical and indepth, but I find even then if one goes down that route they very rarely get it right, i.e. Fifth Gear saying the mk6 is only 1mph faster than the mk5, I cringe at such basic errors.
The porn music was funny  it was almost funky. - I'd like to have heard more sounds from the car as it went past just to hear her.
-
I also like the cut scenes in which the driver is changing the gears... it seems so forceful! ha ha ha very engaging.... like he was hammering a drill... hmmm maybe I am getting a little carried away.... ;)

perhaps this would be a good addition

that trick doesn't work so well with DSG does it :smug:

Missed 5th gear......but just watched there review on YouTube; not really a very involving piece........at least visually in my opinion! I have to say i think Top Gears films are second to non each one is a master of the craft form the camera work to the editing! If i could get my videos 100th as good as Top Gears I'd be well chuffed!!
Cheers for all the great feedback guys!!
P.S i thought the 'cut away' shots of the grear shift being nailed added a certain "energy" to the vid too  thanks for noticing!
-
Top Gear are very good. Your vid was much better than that Fifth Gear one though. That told us almost nothing about the car - although that little aside at the end ("you bet you should") was very telling.
Rolfe.

For me the best 3 videos on YT are:
1. from FR - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrdk3xMZiPM&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrdk3xMZiPM&feature=related)
2. from NL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9_4TnhRZxM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9_4TnhRZxM)
3. from DE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GY5kTYTl0k&feature=fvw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GY5kTYTl0k&feature=fvw)
I really like that dutch guy. Have a look at some of his other reviews. Most of them come with english subs.
And trust me, I used to look for GTI 6 videos every day before I got my car.

not bad... tho a little too heavy on the "rev to 6k" shots and the gear change shots imo. the music is a little too lord of the rings for a driving vid too.
i like the wheel shots and thrashing it down a country lane... the wheelspin in dirt was a nice shot too! :)

The ST is cooool

I'm on one of those vids.

Which one? Do tell :)
