Today i was driving along and heard a metallic "ching" noise as if something fell off the car and hit something solid and metal(like a drain maybe). About 3mins later when I was slowing down there was this loud scraping noise as if something was dragging along the road underneath the car. I was just coming to a stop when the noise abruptly went away as though whatever it was just fell off. However when i checked the car underneath and all around, there was nothing. I checked all along the road too, still nothin. Very strange..... Any ideas?

bumper grilles or air temp sensor (both seem to fall off randomly!)

Have you checked the engine bay? for bits that are sittin around in there?

Heatshield under the cat.

Same situation happened to me. Ripped a metal bar about 2 feet in length off the underside of the car while driving down a country road. Lowered 60mm at the time. The bar went across the middle of the car. Not sure what it is, a support of some sort. Went back the road to get it. Have it in the boot of the car. Ill take a pic after work later and show you.

Cheers for your replies, i will check all the above

There are two protection bars/shields on the exhaust, one in the center after the center box and one near the cat.

Looks quite important to me! Where do you get your mot done might go there too.
-
could have caused sum damage that like....
and one more important thing, I wouldnt rest it up against your mk3 :lipsrsealed:

Unless you knew it was missing you wouldnt spot that theres something obvious missing off the underside of the car. Loud bang alright as it came off the car, lucky there was no damage done. Got the NCT done in the Cork, Ireland. Not worried about putting it up against the car, wasnt going to mark it, aint that heavy. Next on the list is to get it back on!

That bit goes just along from the middle hanging bracket, you can see where it attatches to, just four bolts (2 each side). Just where the body dips in. Mine was off when fitting my exhaust.
,
You dont need that for an MOT
