Title: 8v gearbox into 16v
Post by: Justins145bhpMK1 on 26 August 2004, 15:29
Is there a diffeence between the 8v and 16 v gearbox?? If I fitted a recon 8v box into a 16v what would be the outcome??

the ratios are different. best stick with the 16v 'box.

there is a very very slight ratio difference in 2nd gear but its barely noticable.

also if you run an 8v box you'll have a longer 5th gear making for easier motorway journey's

you'll also need an 8v clutch as the input shafts on the boxes are different sizes.

16v boxes are like hen's teeth nowadays so gettin your own recon'd would be a good idea

I thought that the 16v 'box runs 1000rpm for every 25mph in 5th whereas the 8v 'box runs 1000rpm for every 20mph in 5th  ???

so the 16v one would be better for motorway driving?

nah mate, other way around

k-jet 8v's are 24mph per 1000k

16v's are 20mph per 1000k
