Title: Mk1 9a driveshaft ?
Post by: bulletz on 12 July 2009, 04:12

I've read a lot of info regarding the use of different driveshafts eg: 90mm or 100mm when doing a mk1 9a swap.
I am using a 020 box, 90mm driveshaft flanges but after taking the car for its first short run i've noticed that the drivers side drivshaft is too short, t has popped out, any idea on what one I should be using??

you use MK1 chassis shafts, matched to the gearbox. so if 90mm flanges you want MK1 GTI 90mm shafts, if 100mm flanges you want late MK1 cabrio/scirocco 100mm shafts

small block shafts from 084 and 085 boxes are diffrent lengths than shafts from 020 boxes

as above, 1.0-1.3 shafts need replacing with manual 1.5-1.8 MK1 Golf/Scirocco/Cabby ones to match the gearbox you have

I had an issue with the shaft for my sportline, had a gearbox from a non-gti but as the shaft length was wrong, it kept eating CV joints :s

hopefully you dont have the same problem :)
