Title: Outer CV Joint Replacement
Post by: rclifton4 on 11 July 2009, 16:24
As titled really, everytime i turn the steering left whilst driving there is a nasty clunk.

I knew it needed doing when i bought the car but suddenly went from clicking to clunking lol

Basically is it easy enough to do at home or will i need any specialist tools?

I see on ebay there is a company which supplys the outer joint, boot, hub nut, and grease for £30 posted near enough!

Is that about right?

That might not be a cv joint, if it is howver they are easy enough to change.

Cv joints usually make a clicking noise worst on full lock. Easyish to replace as you have to take suspension to bits to get the hub out.

I had a similar problem to this and it turned out to be a loose wheel adapter.

So if you have wheel adapters then it could be worth checking..

Although I highly doubt that you have lol

i dont go to either (if i can help it) as if you get the right part it's normaly cheap cack
This CV joint clicked fresh out the box!
The one i fitted after went after 8 months!
In the end i bought a pair from VW which have done 40k so far quite happily
I only buy from Euro's/GSF if it is a genuine oem makers part and not made in China/Bulgaria.
Fortunatly i have contacts in Local VW dealer who tells me where to go to get the good parts.
I.E dont buy it from us go to GSF its the same part or buy it from us cos GSF ones are sh@t
