I went to see an S-reg Mk4 yesterday, it's done 114k miles, full service history, looks very nice and drives well. Just noticed a couple of things - the passenger door did not unlock first time, and I think the doors may have dropped slightly (it's a 3-door).
Also the exhaust is apparently new but is quite noisy, it looks new, will it be an aftermarket non-standard job ir is this normal? How much would it cost to change it back to a standard one?
-
Don't do it. Buy a MK2 and you will be happier!
Seriously though they are ok. Exhaust should make no difference if fitted correctly. Doors can be jacked with a bit of wood to protect.

What engine ????

doors have a tendancy to drop, espacially on the 3 door models as there stupidly :lipsrsealed: big lol. Check that the rear axle bushes are all good, if theres a bad knocking when going over pot holes etc on the rear then there shot. The exhaust could be afermarket, is it a stainless steel one or standard steel. If its the 2.0 8v then DONT buy it, waste of money imo, my 1.8 20v non turbo is bad enough and thats running 15bhp more than the 2.0 motor

and a really useless stat seeing as you can't do more than 70mph on the roads
now if you're talking about 30-70mph and 50mpg+...................
-
Whats the 30-70?
-
about 7.5s
-
about 7.5s
really?? that in one gear?? would have thought it a little faster than that?? :undecided: still probably quicker than a petrol 1.8T though
-
I got that from here (http://www.allardmotorcompany.com/pages/atmr/petrol-vs-diesel/petrol-vs-diesel.asp)
Petrol is twice that
28 secs to 100 isnt really quick :lipsrsealed:
Mine does 30-130 in less than that and in 1 gear
-
Why would you stay in a higher gear
Change down to second for the 30-70 and it will be quicker!

thats a heavily modded 130 isn't it?? they aren't standard figures :undecided:
i hate to think the damage you do to your flywheel pulling in 6th from 30mph

cos 2nd in a 6 speed diesel only goes to 58mph plus at 30mph in 3rd you're very close to hitting the sweet spot of torque
-
Ah, why do they always compare the same gears to the diesel though, as it would make sense to change down for the petrol

Hmm, I guess they're quite heavy cars for their size? Or the engines are underpowered?
