Right i have decided to get a fmic for my golf in readiness for an r-tech stage 2 re-map at some point  i have been reading a previous post http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=119624.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=119624.0) with reference mainly to the fmic's that are on e-bay tbh my budget won't go as far as a forge one and besides i dont like the idea that the forge ones only have the cold/hot outlets on the one side which is not what i want i'm after the look of the r-tech one fitted to ben's golf  ideally the r-tech fmic is the one i'm after but i spoke to ben this afternoon and theirs isn't actually up and running as yet ben has it fitted but with no provision for the map sensor which the aum's have they haven't fabricated a map sensor flange/boss to locate into a pipe as yet obviously agu's won't have this problem  ideally i'm looking to get one fitted at the end of the month as i have two weeks holiday  so i looked on the bay and came up with this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-1-8T-turbo-03-FMIC-Front-Mount-Intercooler-Kit_W0QQitemZ250459458737QQcategoryZ72205QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m215QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%252BS%252BIA%26itu%3DUS-BWR%252BUCI%252BUCC%252BIT%252BUA%26otn%3D4%26ps%3D33 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-1-8T-turbo-03-FMIC-Front-Mount-Intercooler-Kit_W0QQitemZ250459458737QQcategoryZ72205QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m215QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%252BS%252BIA%26itu%3DUS-BWR%252BUCI%252BUCC%252BIT%252BUA%26otn%3D4%26ps%3D33) what's everyones opinion on this?? looking at the pipes there does'nt seem to be a provision again for an aum'd one with map sensor flange  so i found this from forge http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=260301&product=FMMAPT (http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=260301&product=FMMAPT) could this be an answer if i went the e-bay fmic or my other idea is as i put to ben could him and nick not use one of these in their kit?? i'm willing to supply the pipe for them to try obviously it could require 2 new sillicone pipes and clamps but maybe this would get round the problem as could it doing the install myself i'm sending the link to ben for him to show nick and hopefully have an answer at the end of next week  whats everyones thought please comments welcomed

why dnt u just get an upretaed smic.
nearly as expensive as a fmic which i prefer for looks  and also the fact that its in the airflow all of the time when being driven thats the benifit of a fmic

To get the best performance out of your engine(be it a std 1.8t or a fire breathing 500bhp drag car),is to get the intake temps as cold as possible, cold air is more dense and will result in a bigger bang(more power). So in answer to your question, yes there is a need for a fmic regardless of what turbo your running,it will be sat ant the front of the car and getting lots of air flowing onto it.
To further this cooling process you can install mister kits that spray water onto the intercooler, this reduces temps even more.

iam just waiting for r-tech for mine..... cant wait tho
mmmm by the sounds of it alex you could be waiting a while  i'm thinking e-bay one and get a map sensor flange welded in by a local fabrication company i found this last night http://www.42draftdesigns.com/categories/products/18tmap.htm $28 dollars works out around 17 quid + delivery from the states  could be another answer for aum's requiring map sensor fitment i also think that the top pipe requires an outlet welding in for the n75 pipe to be run of  if i order the kit and the fittings i'l get a price to alloy weld the required pieces in before i fit the fecking thing  unless r-tech have an answer next week

The only real issue with the eBay FMIC's in the amount of hacking you need to do to the front end of your car :undecided:
