Title: oil burning
Post by: weazgti on 10 July 2009, 10:35
hi all

just bought another mk 2 gti but have noticed blue smoke from exhaust if i blip the throttle is this valve stem seals?
do they come in head set or do i have to buy them seperatly?
there is no mayo on oil cap but exhaust seems to be quite steamy when its not burning oil.
has my head gasket definatly gone?

You need a wet and dry compression test to help diagnose.

As above a compression test will tell you whats wrong.

A compression test won't tell you anything about valve guides or stem seals.

A wet compression test will give you a miniature insight into the oil burning problem, but would still leave you pondering over whether its rings, bore wash, oval bores yada yada yada.

A compression test can tell you if the HG is gone - but only if it blew between cylinders, not if it blew between channels
