Title: Flash Red Advice?!
Post by: Petec82 on 10 July 2009, 08:36
Hey all!

I am a bit of an autoglym fan for when washing my car I use the shampoo, then srp the coat the car in their Extra Gloss Protection! I find it does a nice job and gives a good shine but nothing like what some of you guys produce!

What I would like to do know is what you guys would recommend using to get the best results on my car? Or is the autoglym way the best way? It's flash red by the way!

Also I know turtlewax products don't seem to be rated on here but I have some of their colour match polish in red and was wondering if it's worth using it up? Is it really that bad so I should just throw it out?

Cheers in advance for any advice!
Pete

Hi, there are a number of reasons why your car won't have the depth of shine you want.

1) The paint could be slightly oxidised?
2) Could need claying?
3) Covered in Swirl marks?

If the paint is oxidised, you could correct it by polishing by hand, however it would take a hell of a lot of effort.

Has your car been clayed in the past 12 months? If not, definately worth doing, it gets rid of bonded contaminents and makes your paint work feel as smooth as glass. The Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit is a good start:

If your car is covered in Swirl marks then it needs a really good polish. Again this can be done by hand with the right products. The best product on the market to get rid of both oxidised paint and swirl marks is this:

If you get a free day to spend on your car, do this:

Wash
Clay - Megs Smooth Surface Kit
Wash
Polish - Megs Ultimate Compound
Polish - Augoglym SRP
Wax - Autoglym EGP x 2 Layers

Sit back and admire

Thanks mate! The paint is definately not oxidised or faded it's in really good shape! I have had the car a while now and I have never used a clay kit on it I doubt the car has ever been clayed to be honest so that's what I'll try!

Many thanks for the links and advise!

AG EGP is more a sealer than a wax so you could put a wax over the top, something like Dodo Juice is very easy to use and gives a good finish
