Title: Delivered yesterday !
Post by: Mighty_G on 09 July 2009, 19:57
New to the forum (think this is my 3rd post since joining on the weekend).....

Bit of background, I've been driving company cars for the last 12 years, all boring mundane beasts (Rover 200, Peugeot 406, Vectra), decided I was due a treat at least once......

TORNADO RED
DSG
AAC
RCD 510 with DAB Digital Radio and the Dynaudio upgrade

DSG is brilliant
RCD 510 has Ipod control ability AND DAB which VW had said weren't compatible
Got the AAC as I do a lot fo motorway miles so wanted the comfort setting

Couple of questions I hope you can help with :
1. I now realise I want to integrate my phone to the car, is it best to do it via VW or go to somewhere like sextons ?

2. I also want to integrate my TOMTOM as much as I can, can I get a power supply to it from somewhere behind the dashboard rather than a cable from the cigarette lighter ?

Otherwise I am now a very happy man !

Talk to your dealer about bluetooth options, if it's a bigger dealership they may well be able to offer you several options, both VW and non VW.

I would hesitate taking apart the dash on a brand new car as you'll probably get a whole load of rattles afterwards!
You could take a feed off the fag lighter though I reckon and run it up behind the dash easily enough if you don't mind stripping the car apart a bit. Have a look on google for owners of mk5s who have done similar things, underneath the dash and console it is still mk5 Golf. SEAT offer an official option to mount a TOMTOM so it may be possible to bastardise one of their kits to fit a Golf without too much trouble.

Hey, lovely car!!!

I had ordered the Bluetooth for my new GTI but aparently it only works with a handful of Nokia's so i have removed it from my options now. After a bit of research if you want a totally integrated system compatible with the RNS510 you need a system from www.fiscon-mobile.com and it can be bought in the UK from a couple of dealers, one i found was www.richtersport.co.uk It is about GBP325 and then you will need to get it fitted. I haven't ordered mine yet as i still don't know when my car will be arriving. The system will work with the multifunction steering wheel, the menu will be displayed on the sterio and the  onboard computerand it will go through the speakers.

Hope this helps you.

Someone needs to clarify this bluetooth option, like you've said, I thought it would only work with certain Nokia phones. But after watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcSE0B7aRpE it shows the pairing of an iphone...
