Title: Car Cutting Out!
Post by: Gizmonkey22 on 07 July 2009, 21:18
Hi, my car was fine today on the way to work but for some reason when i left work today the car started but would cut out instantly.

the car will stay on but only if i hold the key in the starting possition which is obviously no good for my starter motor.

all i've bloody had with this car is problem after problem so i,m hoping they are soon coming to an end.

I would guess it's some sort of an electrical fault but i,m not sure where to look first, maybe a relay or something with the ignition.

thanks

Sounds like the barrel is nackered. this happened to my neighbours audi, would only stay on when he held the key in place. so yeh sounds like the igniton barrel mate.

Removing the ignition barrel ?  I have a new part for the rear of the barrel but now I need some help ! I have removed every thing including the shear bolt but the ignition barrel will not move  It looks like the large spring on the column is stopping it from pulling off  Does the knurled nut have to undo first as it wont budge  I have read an old post about using a small fingered puller but am not sure how this would work.

Not sure about these, but a lot of barells are held in by a spring loaded pin, on the outer casing of the barrell is there a small hole, if so try putting something in there then with the key in it and turned so it wont pull out try pulling on the key and the barrell should come out, hope this helps.
