Title: Car available early - what do I do???
Post by: themanmath on 07 July 2009, 13:32
Hey,

Ordered my gti (metallic blk, 18 wheels and luxury) end of may - told delivery was first week in sept on a 59.

My dealer just rang and offered it early, been built already and available for me by end of the month.

Pros of having it early
• Drive it sooner!

Cons of having it sooner
• The garage I am building isn't finished yet
• I would be better placed financially if I wait till sept as I am saving up my 30% deposit in time for sep
• It would then be a 09 not a 59

So, if you were me, what would you do??

Firstly, congrats on your car !!!

That pro is so bloody tempting !

So the dealer will have it at beg of Aug. Personally if it were me I'd tell him to keep it and not register it till 59.

Hi there

If I were you, you've waited all June and it will be all of July why not add another month and get it for 1st September delivery on a nice 59 plate.  You'll probably be one of the first for that month and you'll turn a few heads in the fact that you have yourself a lovely new car add to that, that it's a GTI it's a no brainer!!

Congrats on a nice sounding car and the fact that it's black even better cos mine is gonna be pearl black and I'm going to hold off till September too.

Get it now, who the hell takes any notice about number plates these days anyway?
When the revised ones come out next year they'll be different again for a year or two then nobody will give a hoot again.

True I guess, but as the GTI has only been around for a short time and there are very few 09 platers around I doubt it'll make that much difference. Depends on what demand there is for the car.
My mk5 GTI is an early one and actually has bits of spec that are better than later ones (if you can live without shiny radio buttons!!) so the mk6 may get the same treatment after a year or so. TBH when getting P/X prices from dealers when looking at mk6s they vary so much I think they just pluck a figure from the air, I've even spoken to the same dealer a couple of times using different salesmen and still the figures vary..... Make of that what you will!

Doubt it'll make any difference here, I px'd my Scirocco on a 08 plate and got the same value as a 58'er.

Thats very true, the early mk5's had a lot of little touches that were cheapened out on the later models.  The press attention was over by then

I think with the car not officially being sold till mid June anyway....thinking about it, and the lead times for the cars, I doubt there is more than a handful of 09's out there.

For myself, if I could actually find the money now, I'd get it now.  Unless you're genuinely unwilling to leave it outside until the garage is finished.

Cheers all, pretty even have it now/wait

I think I am going to wait (forgot to say earlier I am away for two weeks in august too). Then again I might change my mind in a day or so and ring the dealer back.

Either way really looking forward to it....

Mine will be September or October.  If they offered it to me early I'd bite their hand off.

But everybody's situation is different.

You have to get it now, September has to be the worst month to get a car, especially front wheel drive. The summer's over and you'll be waiting 7 or 8 months until the roads are dry again and you can actually go faster than a 1.2l corsa. Plus a 59 plate is uglier than an 09 in my opinion.

I wouldn't be able to wait till tomorrow let alone september!

I have a plan..... Wait till 59 plate, now hear me out.....

Go everyday to the dealer, sit in the drivers seat but don't start her up, just take in the beauty of the car, then loose it for 5 mins ! make vroom noises with your lips and screetching sounds as you bounce up and down on the seat tearing the steering wheel from left to right at  break neck speed. Then slowly relax, open the door and quietly walk out the garage back to your every day life.

30 days will pass by in an instant.

take delivery early and enjoy it

had to sound morbid but you could be in accident, drop dead etc etc and have never driven the car

you only live once - make the most of it
