hi have a bad problem with my mk 4 golf 1.8t. it drives fine up until you get to 3000 4000 revs and the turbo kicks in and you get a bad lag. there is no fault codes when i had it put on the computer and i have changed the pressure boost solenoid valve (n75) and there is no change. is there any one who has experienced this problem or any mk4 turbo experts?
-
thats the 1.8t for you i guess... get a remap
-
all turbo cars are gonna have lag...
-
Sounds like a boost leak.. could be a split pipe that's ballooning under full boost. Check all the boost hoses, particularly around the intercooler connections.

check around the pancake pipe in the drivers wheel arch - a few peeps have had a leak there

don't listen to linz she blew her car up

o.k thanks ill have a look at my pipes the weekend. also want to make it quicker and i dont want to re-map it yet. car is standard other than a dumpvave. im thinking exhaust and filter?
-
I reckon 3-4bhp gain with a decent backbox, make that more like 12-15bhp if you do the downpipe and cat aswell. Filter on it's own is 1-2bhp tops... all that stuff only really makes a difference when remapped.

ok. what make's would you recomend? also been looking into getting a front mount intercooler. any suggestions on where and what make recommend getting? thanks..

ahh thats all the free info you get for today

boost leak i would have thought, i am probably wrong, but doesnt the k03 turbo boost at like 2000-2500?? with very little lag??
as for fmic, sierra cosworth or a tdi cooler work well, especially sprinter van coolers. not sure what fits best with the mk4.

Mine used to lag bad until i found out my diverter valve wasnt opening and it used to make a wastgate catter
