Title: now the proud owner of a year 2000 2.0 golf gti :-)
Post by: stokesygti on 06 July 2009, 19:28
right, my names jack, just got this golf today, i was hoping it would be faster with having 115bhp but i suppose the weight of the car does count, and at 19 years old can't really complain, the car has 17" wolfrace alloys on it at the moment and thats it, it's a 3door in black, look pretty smart imo, so i'm guessing there's no point in asking advise now but to look through other threads for information right? because i kind of want it a little bit faster :p
anyways hello and hope i can get good info from here. cheers

Hey welcome to the forum.
Yep you're quite right about the 2.0 mk4 gti being a bit under powered. I don't know what VW were thinking, the smaller 1.8 mk4 gti from 97-99 had 125bhp then they produced less from a larger engine. My other halfs 1.6 produces 105bhp and is only 0.3s slower to 60 according to the book.
However to have such a nice spec motor at the age of 19 is definately not to be sniffed at. I had my first 16v mk2 at the age of 19 but that was in a different era when insurance costs were still sensible, oh and I've been driving mk2's ever since, vw's are definately addictive!!!
Enjoy!!!
