ok, im on hol this week, drove from bham to devon, no prob, got there, just turned into the holiday park and ther was this horrible grinding like noise. its not immobile bt i dont want to drive it any more then i need to. the noise is nt ther when accelerating, just when slowing down, or diping clutch while the car is rolling. i rekon its some part of the driveshaft, its on the passenger side, what costs am i looking at?

Mate, I have the exact same problem - but more of a clicking sound coming from the passenger side.
-
could be a CV or bearing over the drive shaft
-
Sounds like a cv joint.

ok, the noise dissapears when under acceleration, but take your foot off and the noise is there, dipping the clutch the noise is there and its deffinatly related to the car speed, slow down and it gets slower etc.
the noise is like a mechanical clicking/grinding/knocking noise
Was up on the ramps today at a local garage and it appears too be coming from the gearbox, so looks like a recon box.
however when driving it back to the campsite, the noise had quitened down alot and is now just a dull quiet noise.
-
is it a drone type noise??? that could be that the diff is on its way :(
when it was on the ramps, did you check if the drive shafts were bolted to the box properly???
-
everything looked ok, although it was only a quick glance, but the noise was deffo coming from the box.
its like a metal clicking noise, like somethings catching
-
problem sorted with a recon box fitted. The noise was coming from the area where the final drive gear and diff is housed, so im pressuming the diff was on its way out!
anyway the drive back to b'ham went to plan, after nearly having heart attack the day before we was to go home, the garage couldnt get any drive from the new box! turned out the auto adjusting clutch cable hadnt adjusted correctly!

Sounds like a diff pin on its way out.
