Title: ideal moilage when looking at buying a 1.8t
Post by: ukgaz on 04 July 2009, 02:20
Been looking at quite a lot of 1.8ts however noticed they've got quite a high amount of mile i.e. 100k, I'm just wondering what you would ideally suggest as a max mileage for purchasing one.

Mine did 100K when I bought it.
I would say as long as it has service history or partial service history it will be fine, are you buying it from a garage or private?
Garage will offer some kind of warranty which is good
Private you wont get any warranty

i was lucky when i bought mine had feck all milleage but as long as you look after the engine service it properly you got people on here with 140k on the clock with remaps etc etc as rich will tell you the 1.8T is pretty much bullet proof

Don't even go there, you know mine had less

Rich's Golf has 130k on it now!  He's looked after it like it was his first born though.  As long as the car has been well looked after, it should be all good.

Mine had 47k on it when I first got it, like everyone has said as long as it's been looked after the mileage isn't usually a problem

Low mileage can go against you though, it can mean that faults haven't reared their head yet

Mines got 140k on it now and it still runs great.it has full service history.I don't think high mileage matters as long as it has  been well maintained.

Thanks for the replies ladies and gents! Just like any car in a honest opinion, treat it well and it will treat you well back aka not emptying your pockets each month just like my spaxo vts does to me almost every month! (wish i never bought it)

The other half has agreed to me being able to buy one as I think shes getting tired of seeing it go in too often, for the price of repairs I've done to it I could of bought one already!

Cheers

my '02 aum had 77.5k on it, now at 81.5 - fsh, all vag bar the last that was by the phirm - ZERO probs in 9 months of ownership, like a lot have said already - all down to how a car is treated by previous owners - i'd have no probs with getting a 100k + turbo as long as everything added up - just wanted to treat myself to a sub 100k dub for a change lol..there's been many in the past!
