Title: Halford 3 for 2 ... Went a bit OTT
Post by: DubSociety on 03 July 2009, 15:04
Spent quite a bit and bought many things, one of them being three 1 Litre bottles of AutoGlym Super Resin Polish for £30 ... got the third one free.

Right, the only wax/polish products ive used in the past have been Meguiars NXT Tech Wax (good on my previous dark coloured/black car)
&
AutoSmart Cherry Glaze
(car dealers & bodyshops use it before handing the car over to their customers, it leaves a nice wetlook shine and super easy to use, but doesn't really rectify/fill any swirl marks etc which are noticeable in direct sunlight)

I have read that SRP is probably one of the best hand polishes to use? either way, I was nearly out of Wax but still have a bit left to last a while so im thinking of giving my car a few coats of Super Resin Polish and then applying the AutoSmart Cherry Glaze I have on top??

Dunno, just thought i'd start a topic to see people's thoughts on how they use their SRP ... and how often?

I have used the cherry glaze in the past. It does give a good shine and is very easy to use. Good product to use as a 'frequent use' top coat.

AG SRP is excellent, it has a little bit of 'cut' in it and fillers to mask swirls and scratches. Depending on the colour of your car, a couple of applications should really lift it.

If you really want a wet look, try some AG High Definition wax over the top of it - it's an excellent product and lasts for ages.

well you certainly like AG SRP?!

wrt autosmart products - you should try Mirror Image instead of Cherry Glaze if you want to fill swirl slightly

also... if you have a dark/black car you might like to consider Poorboys black hole... that has swirl fillers and acts as a polish at the same time.

i never use SRP so cannot comment on that

Used it today on dads black car ...

Why I never used AutoGlym years ago is beyond me ... the best polish ever, especially for the price. With a lot of elbow grease I managed to remove oxidations, and lots of blemishes that never shifted with just AutoSmart Cherry Glaze on its own. So what I did was, washed the car, applied 2 coats of SRP and then topped it off with Cherry Glaze ... my dads car is absolutely gleaming to say the least. Crystal smooth paintwork, and mirror reflections all round.

Can't wait to have a go on mine tommorow in time for Santa Pod this sunday ... just hope the weather holds out.

AG SRP is excellent, it has a little bit of 'cut' in it and fillers to mask swirls and scratches.

Can definitely say yes it does because their was bird poo residues on my dads car which never shifted with hard elbow grease and other polishes, but with the SRP a good scrubbing in a up and down motion got rid of it nicely!!!!

I have one question though ... it's safe to use the polish after a weekly wash right, even though it has cutting abilities ?? obviously I wont give it that much elbow grease unless I notice a area which requires it.

cherry glaze has not been designed as a polish as such... it is a glaze... it just adds shine

so in the first instance your use of cherry glaze was incorrect but todays application was correct

however, you will find that you have even better results if you finish off with a coat of wax (or two or three)

wrt AG SRP - go easy with it... each time you use it you are using an abrasive action on your paintwork and lacquer... you will inevitably be inflicting swirl marks. it is not designed for weekly use. each time you use it you will be removing the glaze you have imparted from the previous wash.

if you wax and protect your paintwork you will only need to de-wax and then clean, polish, glaze and wax every three months or so.

Whats a good recommended Wax then? ... and your right Cherry Glaze is a Glaze, it bloody said so on the tin! LOL

Seems like the supply of Polish/Glaze I have at the minute will last forever if I only need to do it once a month. Just got to add a good Wax now.

good waxes... you can spend as much as you want... but collinite do good waxes... 915 is a good collinite wax

although if you are only buying from halfords and if you are a major AG fan then consider the AG HD wax which I believe you can buy in halfords

I use SRP as a base for Collinite 476s if I'm doing a "big wash".

To avoid excessive polishing, you can lightly buff the SRP onto the paint, let it haze and then buff off, that way your getting the benefit of the fillers, without over doing the cut element.

Yup thats what I meant when I said can I use it regularly but obviously only buffing it on and off lightly instead of trying to cure defects which would only be achieved through hard pressure.

Guy I had a look at the HD Wax but its a bit expensive aint it ... £40 for a tub of nothing ... the whole reason I spent £30 and got three 1 litre bottles of AG SRP is simply because I know it'll be used all the time now on all the cars in the household. I also got about 1 an a half litres of Cherry Glaze left from a 5L Drum. And thats lasted me over a year and a half now.

HD wax is absolutely fantastic stuff, it gives a really deep wet look finish (like the Cherry glaze, but better) but lasts much much longer. Not used Collinite myself but I hear that is also good.

The HD wax is a bit pricey, but you only use a small amount each time you apply and you won't need to use it very often so it is very good value. It also comes with an MF cloth and 2 applicator sponges.

Buy it off ebay, it's about £25 plus postage. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

HD Wax gets "good" write-ups on detailing world, but not amazing. I thinks its popular because its the best overall wax you can buy in halfords.

If you want gloss/wet shine, you would be far better off with a similar priced tub of Dodo wax. If you want protection, you could spend under £20 and get a tub of colli or FK1000.

agree

i mentioned HD wax because the OP was mentioning that they were purchasing in Halfords... I was mentioning that as it was the best one I could think of that I have seen in there.

agree about the Dodo/Colli route... £20 will get you either a nice shiny dodo or a nice bit of protection and shine from colli.

have to say for quality product you should start purchasing at specialist retailers... such as elite

So which Dodo gives the ultimate wet look shine?

So which Dodo gives the ultimate wet look shine?

supernatural - although you will complain about the price as you get even less of that than the HD wax and it costs twice as much!

maybe consider hard candy if you want a dodo juice wax for a reasonable price

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/dodo-juice-hard-candy.php?manufacturers_id=47 (http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/dodo-juice-hard-candy.php?manufacturers_id=47)

although HD wax if you are set on using AG products will do pretty much the same thing

Colli 915 still, imo, represents good value for money for shine and protection

So which Dodo gives the ultimate wet look shine?

If thats your car in the sig then I would go for something like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DoDo-Juice-Orange-Crush-Soft-Wax-250ml_W0QQitemZ260421585373QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3ca25609dd&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30

Very good wax and that ebay seller posts for free, even on one pot of wax

Cheers for all the helpful replies. Been most educational ...

I typed in "Carwax with the highest carnauba content" in to Google ... first thing that came up was Collinite 915 ... so as recommended by users already, I thought i'll just buy a tub so paid for one on ebay ... £24 total.

I'll see how it goes although I doubt i'll notice a massive difference because my cars gleaming already with just the AG SRP & AutoSmart Glaze treatment.

it will enhance the glaze... and allow you to keep it protected for months... so you won't have to use your SRP every week... prob just once every 2-3 months - a lot less effort!

After the SRP you could give it a coat of jetseal [or similar] to get the protection, then natty blue on top for gloss. You have to leave plenty of cure time between coats when you start using that amount of products simultaneously.

Tbh, just get yourself a Wax, only reason im using AutoSmart Cherry Glaze is because ive got a lot of it already to finish. I'd get Collinite 915 because its highly rated ... not only because people have recommended it, but the fact I typed in Highest Carnauba Content in Google (Carnauba being the ingredient that gives that wet look shine) and Collinite 915 showed up as the FIRST result, followed by DoDo stuff.

Title: Re: Halford 3 for 2 ... Went a bit OTT
Post by: mikemk4gti on 06 July 2009, 18:16
would you say collinite is much better than nattys blue? only reason I ask is because its more expensive and I don't want to spend too much tbh.
Title: Re: Halford 3 for 2 ... Went a bit OTT
Post by: DubSociety on 06 July 2009, 20:57
Do you know what ... I haven't used Collinite yet so can't say its better or just as good as Nattys blue, but people have their own opinions. BUT, its definitely very HIGHLY rated by people; not to mention it also shows up as the first result when searching for 'a wax with the highest carnauba content' (which is what gives the glossy wet look shine) so it must be good.

decisions! I have now read about clearkote carnuba moose wax - meant to be really good?
also chemical guys butter wax and the dodo juice blue stuff. I have had a hard wax before and it was a nightmare to buff off after, are they all like this?
So, don't want to spend more than £20 tbh so what should I buy :undecided: :undecided:

Order either that above or Collinite 915 from this website: www.perfectlycleaned.co.uk and at checkout use the discount code "band1" lol shouldnt really be sharing this, but I got a tub off him on eBay for £24 and now if I re-order direct from his site I get 7.5% off.

only apply 915 one or two panels at a time and do not allow it to 'cake' on
