Title: Cab Hydraulic Hood
Post by: JonMk1Cab on 23 August 2004, 13:02
Finally found the leak to the hydraulics in the hood, the reservoir has a hairline crack on the underside (the plastic bit at the bottom of the pump).  Replacement from VW is the whole unit at over ?1000.  Does anyone know whether it is possible to replace separately?  Looks like the plastic weld/silicone sealant will have to have a go.  Hope I don't catch "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis"

It may be worth trying to source one second hand, from a breaker. I think your idea of silicone sealant is worth a shot, but the pressure may be to much for it. I can not see any reason why the fluid reservoir cant be replaced seperatly.

Managed to get it fixed by my mate that works in a Body Shop.  Plastic welded the crack - looks ugly with a black plastic line, but does the job.

Using it every day at present trying to give it a few good blasts to clean away the cobwebs.
