I have finished my Golf GTI 8V project. She is tornado red with 116,000 miles. Just had a service and also has MOT till Feb 2010. Sometimes i feel like selling it and moving on to my next project as i am mad to buy a mk2 or else another mk3. Then sometimes i realise that i have spent far too much on the car. I bought the car last december and here is a list to the amount of work thats has been got into her:
-new disks and pads all round
-new filters
-oil change
-rear axle bushings
-rear shocks
-rocker cover gasket
-glove box mechanism & catch
-new rear lights (old ones slighty cracked)
-dipstick
-centre caps (longbeach alloys)
-GTI badge front grill
-VR6 front splitter
-few interior bits to make perfect
-wiper blades
-respray on 2 back panels and also bootlid (dents)
She flew through the MOT with no Advisories and she hasnt seen rain in my ownership.
The truth is the amount of money i spent on the car i would never get back.
So what should i do?

Make it go faster, polish it and admire it.

She gets washed once a week and waxed once a month

Going through exactly the same meself Mate.
Been offered a couple of Mk2's in exchange for mine and when it comes to the deal I have not been able to pass the car on
I know this doesn't help your situation, just to let you know you're not the only guy with the dilema :undecided:

Looks like you need the following then:
P&P'd head
4 Branch
High lift and long duration cam
remap to suit
that should keep you busy and your wallet empty for a while. Either thst or bin the 8v and drop a 16v or VR6 in it. If you'r enot bothered about improving performance then just do little things on it that make you smile and enjoy it. At the end of the day it's your car so do what makes ya smile.
