I have just had new valve stem seals fitted to my 16V andnow since the head has come off, there is an oil leak, I think it is coming from the large pepe just left of the main breather hose! What is this pipe and should oil be able to leak from here?
Thanks
-
Dude, if that were me i'd her take back right NOW.
-
If it's just a matter of tighneing up a clip, I'll do it my self, just want to know what this pipe is, head seems fine, no sign of leaks there, but if I can't get it sorted it will go straight back :)
-
You got a pic mate?
-
I'll take one ASAP when I get home from work!
cheers

Cool & the gang ;)

the large pipe to the left of the main breather is a water pipe, so u cant have oil leakin from that
-
*Feels so embarrsed* :) Yep Gambit was right, figured this out earlier when I took a better look, been raining hard down here lately.
It just a clip round the water pipe, it's rusty/browny water that was dripping, not oil i don't think! Must have got disturbed when the head came off!
The clip is the one that you need four pairs of hands and three mole grips to get off! can I just replace this with a jubilee clip?
-
yeah you can just stick a jubilee clip on it. mine has one on it
and if its pumpin out brown rusty water id be looking to flush the system out completly to get rid of all the gunk. then refill with nice new antifreeze/water mix
-
Good point, I'll get it flushed and add new coolent for the coming winter :)
What's the best point to drain the system, any advice or dhould I just follow the Haynes manual, also what's the best coolent to get?
Thanks
-
just get Anti-Freeze from your VAG dealership. just do what the haynes says for flushing the radiator - though its a good idea to disconnect the two pipes for the oil cooler (top of oil filter) and flush with a hose as its usually full of gunk n rust in there

Thanks again
