i have a mk3 cl . and it seems to be getting rather hot . i bought it and the head gasket went so sent it back and they fixed that , and also changed the water pump . the tempreture dosent get over 110 . the chap that fixed it said it was normal because the thermastat kicks in at 87 degress . is this right ? should it be doing this ?

should not be doing it. Does the radiator fan come on at all?
-
um it does but like when it gets to 115 degress ? soo what could it be do you rekon ?

Sounds like he didnt fix it properly. Would advise getting it looked at by another garage mate. A good one. Head gasket is a huge job to just be done by sending it back mate.
And when they go, they take the engine with them.

looks like knackered fan switch. It should be kicking in at 94 or 95 degrees iirc.
Was the thermostat changed also when the water pump was done? Could well be the thermostat was on its way out and by removing it and re-using it, it packed up completely.
Id first change the thermostat, then flush the entire cooling system and stick new coolant in there. If it still runs hot then I'd look at replacing fan switch.

brill , thanx for the help mate ill do that. thanx again

Try and find out if the head gasket was replaced, also you may have an air lock.
-
Could also be your water temperature sensor is misreading, if the water temp is reaching 115 degrees before the fan comes on I would expect to see steam. Ian.

the top caps blow at about 120
