Title: My disappointment at Vdub dealer service
Post by: C4 on 29 June 2009, 13:53
Hey everyone!

Haven't been chatting here for a long time, but since I bought a scirocco GT and went to pick it up today I had to let off some steam somewhere, so where else better than here right?

Here's what happened to me...

3 weeks ago I signed away a large amount of my greens for a nice newish scirocco GT, the deals was I could pick it up today (29/06/09) at 12pm. So i made all the arrangements for this appointment e.g going to work slighlty later, insurance change over time, fuel ect...

But as I arrived there on time, I wasn't even greeted with a 'Ah welcome Mr X, how may I help you?'. instead i was greeted with a cold 'yes? may i help you?'

My first impression was 'I hope you was expecting me, i mean i bought a GOLF GTI off you guys 4 months ago and now Im picking up my purchased Scirocco! theres no way you can NOT KNOW who I am!

Then i was told 'sorry the guy who dealt with your sale has been moved to another dealer so there's been a confusion, he said come back at 5, in which I replied 'I have to be at work at 3 and i now have no insurance on the car I was trading in !!!!

So he replied 'here I'll lend you my personal car, just put fuel back in when you come back' After 20 mins of being treated unfairly I finally blew a tiny fuse, the only compensation I got was 'ok ok no need to put fuel back in i'll have to claim it back the company then'.

So I complained even more, and the guy said 'I've just talked to my manager and unfortunately because the deal on the car was so good we cannot offer anymore in compensation other than apologising now if you excuse me i have to get back inside, we'll have the car ready for you at 2:15 the latest as the car hasn't been valeted yet. and he left.

Now, I usually stay calm in situations like this but for FXXX SAKE WHAT DO THEY THINK THIS IS?!?!?! A Fxxxxxx CIRCUS?!?!?!?! It felt like I was dealing with a backyard second hand car sales company, not the service you'd expect from a VW dealer! I feel robbed and it is quite possibly the biggest insult I have recieved in the past 10 years, Im mean its not like Im buying a Maccy D's and got a soggy burger, I just spent a large part of my hard earned greens and the service is just... enough, i cant even type anymore cos i'll probs end up smashing my monitor.

I just dont know what to do apart from to bend over and take it.... any ideas on what could make me feel better?

still got the keys to the car you're trading in??

i'd rag it around the block, kerb the alloys and then put lovely key marks all over the paintwork

that should help vent some frustration!!

if not just key all the cars in the dealership

I wouldn't damage your trade in car

At 4:55 phone them and tell them that you can no longer pick it up at 5. Arrange another day when its convenient to yourself

Or tell them that you need to have the manager complete the transaction

Absolutely disgraceful.

I would have been tempted to tell them that the deal was off.

Alternatively follow this simple guide:

1. Go to Staples and buy a large jiffy bag.
2. Have a turd in said jiffy bag.
3. Post to dealership FTAO: The manager

Note: Be sure to not put enough stamps on it so the dealership have to PAY to receive your turd.

To Phil Mcavity: spot on, how did you know? dont tell me you work there?!?!

I like all the suggestions, i think im gonna go with the jiffy bag solution he he

Save the expense of a jiffy bag and do it under the bonnet of the trade in, make sure you leave the blowers on too..

Go to a fishmongers buy a haddock and hide it under the back seat....

Reminds me of the treatment I got at Gladgow Audi whilst picking up a new A6.

Hardly endears them to you for the next car AND worse it sours what should be a nice experience!

Why does this story not suprise me??

Im STILL waiting for a new fuel cap after some dozy git broke mine when it last went in for repair. i know I messed up by not recording or remembering what the milage was before i dropped it off, but do remember it had half a tank of fuel. When I got it back it had what looked like more than half.... so Im almost sure some had it for a couple of days ragged it and then put some fuel back in!!

Why else would the cap be broken off??

Am I the only one that thinks he is over reacting a little? Ok so the car wasn't ready because of the confusion between the guy and dealer has the original bloke had left, these things happen and mistakes are made. From reading it sounds as if they had blown your car up.

I appreciate you had work and they offered you a car to get there and back on and then even moved the time forward to 2:15 from 5 . . .

Anyways, hope you get your car all OK.

I try to get a new car every 2yrs so for me it wouldnt have really been that much of an issue. But for some people its the second biggest purchase your likely to make, so you would expect the person selling you the item show you some appreciation and make the day a little special.

I just cant understand how these dealers get away with it... I spoke to 2 sales people last week and they both walked away from me because they couldnt handle it that I knew more about car prices and the cars that they sell.

Got to admit, if it were me I wouldn't have been overly bothered, but that's not to say it's bad service. I think it's just that I would have been expecting problems anyway, I always do!  It's a lot of money to spend and it's nice to feel recognised in place's like this, but let's face it, there only being friendly because you've just made them money  so it all comes across a little fake anyway IMO.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

I can understand your annoyance tbh. However, the car itself doesn't seem to be the issue. it's the sheer lack of respect and courtesy conveyed by  the dealership that would have me seeing red.

Sorry but this cannot continue. This treating of the customer in all sales walks of life is wrong. There is NO excuse for it - common decency and all that.

Personally, I'd be talking/complaining to the dealer principal stating that the lack of communication & following indifference is unacceptable - especially consider the amount of money you've spent.

It does make you wonder that in these "credit crunch" times whether these people WANT to stay in business.

All imho

Dan
ps I went through 4 or 5 dealers before I found a decent one. Wasn't used to that with Audi and Subaru....

I guess i was upset because I waited 3 weeks, had my insurance to change over at an agreed time and made the effort to arrive at the dealer just before my insurance change over time. Got there and expected to be talked to like an adult.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, after I asked a question and he answered it, he quickly said excuse me i have to get back inside, but in honest truth i hadn't finished asking questions.

I did get the car in the end at 2:30pm leaving the dealer at 3:20, so my day wasn't completely ruined.

I didn't expect superior gloden service, but i did expect some level of ok customer service (i mean a fake smile is better than a real frown). I would never ever treat my customers in my shop the way they did today, I mean ok there was a cock up somewhere, no one admitted to the fault, but these things happen i know, I was very very disappointed when I was talking to him and he just said he's gotta go back inside and he left, not even giving me the chance to ask my last few questions.

I would've accepted their apologies with no trouble if i was given in a polite manner, but unfortunately for me, it came with a frown and a "aint my fault cant help ya mate" attitude.

BUT im done with whining now and im feeling 50 billion times better cos the scirocco is lovely guys! only other thing to say is my golf came with some chocolates (yum) but the scirocco didnt lol maybe they're trying to tell me something about my weight. anyways im a happy veedubber now

the green Rocco looks fabbydabbydozzie! .
The head sales guy at my dealership thinks he knows it all, and the sales woman I purchased it off was absolutely brilliant, tho 1 week later they made her redundant  , so when I go in there I fell abit of a stranger, tho the service managers good and so are the parts people- EVEN if I do go in there for with some strange questions!
VW are one of the richest car companys, they should always be on top form! (unlike Citroen)
Glad the cars made it all worth it!

agreed, my first car was a vauxhill (lol) back then i had to bend over, take it from behind AND drive a terribly built car.

I had a similar situation when I purchased my car. When I picked it up the Sales Manager and the Sales person asked if I could give them positive feedback when the VW Customer Service called me. So I gave the dealership a real slating when VW customer service called. Even named the sales person and manager by name. If they wanted a positive feedback then they should have given a positive customer service. Sheesh.

I asked if they had any bits and pieces like a golf umbrella/keyring that they could throw in as I spent shed load of money on a new GTi however they were like no, you're going to have to pay for that. When my g/f bought her bog standard 1.6 A3 she got loads of free stuff (1 liter of top up oil, nice metal keyrings, audi umbrella, rubber mats, audi sweets in that cylindrical metal tin) plus £2k off the list price.

My dealer I bought my car from (Beadles Maidstone) where fanstic. Sales guy Dave something or other was a really top bloke, did a great deal and I even got an umbrella in the boot. Had some small issues a few days after which he was more than happy to help me on the phone over and was all round a great sales guy.

A guess you win some you lose some.

When I first went in to have a look the guy was really uninterested, when I asked him how much I'd get in a trade in for my old car said he couldn't tell me as his sales manager wasn't in

The second time I went in I made sure to get a different guy.  He was marginally better than the first guy.  One of his first comments was 'ah you have a GTI already, you know about the insurance then'.

He did perk up a bit as he realised I was serious but overall the whole experience was as satisfying as buying a second hand tumble drier.  Sounds like most of them could do with a good boot up the arse.

Ive had issues with them causing damage to my car whilst in for service, and for a 2nd service, i wasnt happy with exactly what i was getting for my money, a bill, with a set of part numbers, no brake fluid service which should of been done, (Over 2years old). No Technitions report showing the cars health. Not good at all. Unfortunatly, theyve bought out the rival dealership in Southampton aswell, so im not happy.
