Cars don`t seem to get nicked so much thease days, was wondering how well protected a mk6 gti is ?(AFTER READING THE INSURANCE TOPIC ON THIS BOARD )
-
Wouldnt worry about the Cat or Alarm, both will be pretty good as standard.
One neat feature, is that the car wont start until you put your foot on the clutch. It's to help with the starter motor ticking over and fuel economy.
-
How does that help with fuel econmy ?,if the car is not started then how can it be using fuel ?

Because when you turn your car over it uses fuel, the more you turn it over it uses additional fuel. That wasted fuel stays in liquid form rather than vapour = more fuel being used. In the past and I'm sure still to this day, some people can flood their engine if a car turns over and doesnt ignite.
Wouldn't it have been easier to say thanks, rather than try and be a smart arse ?
-
Chill out was asking a question not being a smart arse, was a geniune question
-
Your welcome.

Being as you did`nt answer the question with any more than the obvious and followed with some useless info about pressing the clutch which most people do because they leave the car in gear,i did`nt feel a thank you was needed.,I`ve noticed this about you kev your very quick to jump down peoples throats.

Don't mention it.

The alarm and immobiliser will hold its own. Its the keys you got to worry about
-
Someone breaking in and stealing the keys ?

correctamundo!!
pro theives will always go for the keys. Amateurs will keep well away as they wouldnt know what to do once they have put the window through.

Yes i`ve seen that on t.v,i live in a o.k area so i`d need to be very unlucky for that to happen, point taken though.Even seen them with a tele scopic rod and magnet trying to fish for the keys.Toss pots

Area you live in desnt matter. If they see a nice car they can just follow you to where u live. Clever guys these pro's!

Thats how its done and with a new car its almost the only way its done. Pretty much just hide your keys and your cars safe. Bit of crime prevention info for you, its known that car thiefs break into lockers at gyms, swimming pools etc solely for your car keys. Easy theft so be aware.

I'd be wary of getting car-jacked also when parked up on the pavement or waiting at red lights. And I wouldn't leave the keys in the ignition when putting petrol in.

On the mk5 there is an option for auto locking where as soon as you go above 10 mph the doors lock. Just like a taxi. Might be usefull for those that live or have to drive through less salubrious areas I suppose. I would imagine its still there on the mk6 (in the highline or via VCDS / stealer).
