Title: introduction/advice
Post by: ianw3321 on 27 June 2009, 14:32
Hi, I have just bought a 1995 "n" reg mk3 golf gti 2.0 litre 8 valve. I would appreciate some advice on the airflow meter. The car has had the airbox removed and an aftermarket conical shaped foam air filter fitted in its place. When I got the car home I noticed that the engine tended to cut out when cold if you dont keep it going with the throttle and although it does not cut out once warm it does seem rather lumpy at tick over. So I had a look and I noticed that the air flow meter has its wires discinnected, a little rectanguler black box marked vw/audi and hitachi just ahead of the filter. So I reconnected the wires and although it cures the lumpy tickover, you now get a delay when you press the throttle and a significant reduction in power. So I have disconnected it again as it runs better. Does anyone know if its to do with the aftermaket filter or does the airflow meter need replacing? Any advice would be appreciateted. Ianw3321.
