Title: poss short on battery?? - trying to find diagnostic plug? stuck...
Post by: robz on 27 June 2009, 11:26
hey all,
i have looked through search all this am but cant seem to match anything to mine..
basically got in the motor this am and the ussuall lights come on, pump primed, started it and i heard alot of cafufal behind the dash and the clocks reset and the starter was clicking.
thought hmm, you will go you b!tch... went again, primed and click click click...
now if this wasnt bad enough, my drivers window wound itself down when trying to start it... which was vaguely amusing:)
any ideas on this...
it has been eating coil packs recently and doing the ussual idle problem with success in finding the culprit...
is it worth putting vagcom on..
may try and jump it later see what happens...
or is this dirty electric badness??
cheers

Check your earth straps under the bonnet first and go from there.

hey, ok.
i decided that bumping the bugger would be  good idea, as i was sure that the battery was flat as a fart...
i did this, started and ran fine apart from sad idle issue...
ran it for a while and took it fo a short run to charge the battery...
turned it off... did a hot start and started fine (without any electric window dancing, lol)
so trying to hook the vagcom up and i cant find my port...
any ideas on a 2e '93 8v???
sorry to ask this but i cant find it anywhere...
had a good sarch scan and couldnt pick it up withthe key words i was puuting in anyway...
any help greafully appreciated as im out with the car now :)
cheers all!!

Pre 95 cars have a 2x2 connector behind the blanking plugs near the rear window de-mister switch, later OBDII have it next to the ash tray.

It sounds like an earth thing though,  I would clean up the leads on the starter, they they corrode they will cause it to do that,  seems to happen quite a lot to me,  take any earth leads off and use sand paper to clean them, then add a bit of copper grease,  always does the trick
