Afternoon everyone , I've been reading the forum for ages now and I thought I would join the club as I need a bit of help.
I'm in the process of doing up my 82 mk1 gti and what seemed like a small project has kind of exploded.
I don't care as I can't wait to drive with pride past all the convertible escorts and sad corsa's that these Essex Boys drive.
I'm getting two new number plates and after going to a few shows this year I really like the look of the metal german style plates. Has anyone got any ideas of who to go to about getting some?
I also need a new front number plate holder as the original has more rust than the titanic, I can't seem to find anyone that does any new ones.
everyones help will be gratefully received
cheers
Dave

Hi David, welcome to the site (Not the real David Essex, surely)
The best place for the grman number plates is Dubmeister (http://www.dubmeister.co.uk/)
Technically they are illegal, but I am not aware of anyone having had any problems with them.

No it's not the real David Essex, my names Dave and I live down here in ford convertible land.
Thanks for all the replies I will check them out.
Q
When you say they are illegal what's the problem with them?
is that also the case with the black and white ones? I heard that they have to be pre 1973, is that right?
-
hi dave,
the german ones are illegal as the font and spacing are all wrong. much more strict number plate laws came into place a while back.
yeah the black and silver ones are only legal on pre 73 cars

bugger
I might change my plans a bit then but I will have a look at the sites mentioned.
surely the boys in blue have better things to do than pull over people for the sake of a few mm's!
