Title: newbie after some advice
Post by: werevilla on 22 August 2004, 17:51
Hi

Im thinking of buying a mk3 gti ive viewed the car and it seems mint full service recored . Not a bad price 1695.00 for an n plate . A couple of thinks are troubleing me 1st the drivers leccy window not working and both sill extensions mouldings are not on the car. when i asked the seller about the mouldings he said that they had been nicked which i find hard to believe cos there riveted on by the front arches.

Also one other thing the car has no sun roof were mk3 gtis not fitted with them as standard.

Advice is appreciated as i am keen to have another golf previously i had 3 mk2 gtis and have just had the car i replaced my mk2 gti 16v with written over which was a rover 220 coupe. know what was i thinking of buying a rover
any one know how much the sill mouldings are cos i can try and knock the price down and get the car cheaper

hiya,

leccy window not working would be major annoying and is odd the seller hasn't bothered to fix. the parts can get a bit expensive if you can't get them 2nd hand.

try these guys for the sills http://www.gpcvwaudi.com/ like you say though an unlikely thing to have nicked!

i thought all mk3 gti's had a sunroof? sounds a bit odd to me. have you done a hpi or similar history check on the car?

HPi it. AA history check / inspection is a lot more thorough, but costs a lot more. Sounds a little bit dodgy.

GL/CL with body kit??

If its got air-con then no sunroof.

Sounds cheap for an N reg.

Would really check this cars history out. See what the MOT certs say. Are they all from the same garage?

Sunroofs were standard up to '96, where they became an option....is it a late N?

done hpi check the car comes back clear . Also checked with vw customer services has got full history with dealer? . And roofs were not standard was an extra according to vw i think im going to buy just to use for a couple of months and sell on. Its got all original hand book and service records ive had 3 other gtis and never seen   the original hand book it looks mint for the money.

Well perhaps this is the exception to the rule.

Happy motoring mate.

Pull back the rubber boot from the piller to the door, and check the wires for damage. Had a non-working elec window on mine when I brought it. Knocked ?200 off the price! Fixed by wraping the damage with tape! ;D
