Title: Colour choice?
Post by: gc76 on 26 June 2009, 12:50
Going to order my car today and i'm having doubts over the colour. My first choice was going to be White. Then I changed to Red but on the 11th hour I am thinking of White.

Such a difficult choice

Red looks good even when filthy.
White needs to be kept spotless or it looks like a plumbers van.

Your GT must be from Portugal.  The cars made in Germany have better paint and don't chip.

Check out you VIN.

Not so Noshy, the solid colours don't have a seperate clear coat which I think it part of the issue.  I can vouch that the tornado red I have is from wolfsberg (All GTI's are IIRC) and seems to be a lot more prone to chipping and minor scratches than my previous pearl black mkiv.

It's because you live no where near anyone else. You going to get a stone chip from tractors and farm animals?

the red one in the sales brochure does look

but after studying used car prices for years i have this theory that red cars are always worth less  :undecided:

Agreed. Black looks fantastic, but only when it's spotlessly clean, which, as you say, is for about 3 minutes. I have had 3 black cars and even leaving them in the garage didn't offer any solution, as after 3 or 4 days they were covered in dust.

I reckon carbon grey is the best compomise.

Agreed!! the grey one in the showroom looked the doggs.. and the courtesy car i had was grey and never appeared as dirty as black.

Although all the other colours still look sooo tmepting i will probably end up opting for the stealthy black

Same here.  Black looks awesome when clean and polished but 5 minutes later and its covered in dust.  Red is the future for me

did the carbon grey one in real life look bluey... as it does on the vw web site?  my dealer only has silver or black.  i must admist i didn't mind the silver one, looked quite smart.
