Get yours remapped and it will be a lot more close. At least yours can go round corners without ripping your hands off due to torque steer

A car is worth whatever a person is prepared to pay. Das Auto paid £25k.

Great result but I would never pay £2k to insure a car.

2k is actually not a bad. I pay £1300, 29 with 5yrs ncb.
-
29, 5yrs ncb and you're paying HOW MUCH?!
You needs to move out of Leeds dude. an R32 for myself in Wallingford with 2 yrs ncb & driving @ 26 and it's only £1000
-
nice one dude! Very jealous! If you got the chance, why not?? I know I would If I had the money to do it!
And 2k fully comp for an 09 gti at 19 years old is a bargain!

Im 22 and only pay £1200! Thats silly money! I can get an E90 M3 for less than £2k on insurance!
-
Good luck Das Auto, enjoy your car and don`t crash it or you`ll prove the insurance company`s right.

I thought it was quite good. Before I got my 8points I was paying £1100 so not bad. but yes i am quite sure my postcode is often targetted for vehicle theft. might try register it to my business address instead and see how it fairs. that place is a right dump and the last place anyone would go to nick a car

hmm, london, 33 but then i add my wife, mum and dad to it which lowers the premium to 390 quid.
funny thing is that a new mk6 is cheaper to insure than a 2nd hand mk5!

some insurers do this because they realize that if your able to buy a brand new hot hatch, your not going to be an absolute nut and drive like a nob (well most likely   the majority arent) therefore the premium is lower. However, any old guy can go and get a mk5 gti with 70k miles on the clock, and act like a boy racer as the car is much cheaper etc. therefore more expensive to insure!

Hardly rocket science mate! Less have been crashed and claimed on

Poor underwriting then. If I were them I'd extrapolate the claims experience from the mk5 and apply to the mk6.
However, don't get me wrong I ain't complaining! Its all good logic that I can use to justify splashing out on a mk6!! :)

Thats really odd, I thought as far as the actual car was concerned it would be the insurance group that defined it not anything else. I was led to believe that value didn't make any difference up to around 35k :undecided:

Insurance group is just one factor, post code, age, ncb, experience etc etc all affect it.
If you live in a neighborhood watch area you will pay more (as more claims have been made in that area due to diligent people)
The main factor is the amount of claims from the age of the people (hence being young is expensive) Getting older makes little difference, its the fact you are part of an age group that doesnt claim as much.
Its just disgusting insurance, on of the biggest cons ever! I have paid thousands and thousands on insurance and never claimed for anything (other than my CD player being stolen, which was not my fault) I lost all my NCB and increased my premium by hundreds! Im no more of a risk but they can get money out of me and theres nothing i can do as i have to have insurance.
Saying that the biggest factor is having a girl thingy, that cuts your premium in half

I realise all that but the only thing thats changed is his car....
Hence why I said as far as the actual car is concerned...
-
wow, you guys in the UK pay a lot for insurance. I pay Euro600/year for the Mk6 Golf GTI and yeah I am old at 37... cheers!!

thats cos your an old bag dear. ta ra
-
Well, isnt that what I said? That I am old? ha ha ha perhaps thats why the younger generation needs to pay more for insurance, since we need to repeat all the time!

Back to my other post mate, its been crashed less as fewer are on the road (i doubt the company has even had 1 claim on it yet) so its cheaper.
-
Still doesn't make sense though. Surely for that very reason they would be taking a conservative approach to pricing not the other way round.
Can't argue with the facts but it seems a bit strange.
-
Its mostly because there all bastards mate lol
-
€850 a year with O'Girke, Rheindahlen Garrison for my 5dr GTi.
I'm 28 with 8 years NCB.

not a bit expensive??. iv got 1 years ncb and therefore u can guess my kind of age and ive been quoted 1250. seems like your post code is a poor one

by that logic the insurance on brand new models would be free...

I'm stuck in one of the British bases in Germany, in the UK I will only pay less than halve of that.
