Title: Running Temperature
Post by: Ashley on 25 June 2009, 22:21
Just a quick question for everyone to answer really

At what temperature does your car run?
Mines been sitting at 70, going up to 90 if running hot or in traffic for a long time, until recently it started sitting at 80/90 as standard. I've had the thermostat and new coolant and it sits at 80 as standard now

A friend told me MK3s run at 80/90 - is this right?

cheers

Mine sits in the middle of the gauge and never moves, sat in traffic, going along slowly or flat out on the track.

Are we talking about the MFA oil temp or the coolant temp gauage on the dashboard? If were talking about the guage on the dash then mine sits bang on in the centre and never moves up or down!

should run at 90degrees, if lower either stat is missing or stuck open. could also be a sensor/dash fault, what does the oil temp say on the mfa if you have one?

Always 90 regardless of driving style, duration of trip etc

I don't have a mfa reading unfortunately as it's the economy cheapo 1.4

OK well if 90 is the norm, my car's been running cold for the past 2 years  :undecided:

I've never had/seen another mk3 to compare it to though in my defense  good to know though!

saying that our 1.3 polo was always a bit slow to warm up, i put a new vag stat in it so it definitly wasnt that causing it.  since you've done a stat/coolant and its now at 80, I wouldnt worry about it too much :)

Always a solid 90, unless i whack the heating on full blast, that'll bring it down.

mine sits around 70-80 on a motorway, in traffic it stays at 90.... hope mines ok.

Oil temp runs (at the moment in this warm weather) around 85, does go to around 90, but when on motorway it drops again to arond 80-85. hope this is ok aswell :)

8v gti by the way.
