Title: Revs up from cold by itself?
Post by: Tramp on 25 June 2009, 21:07
I have a MK2 GTI and when i start it cold it starts but will rev up quite high and then come down too 10,000 but then it goes up again and does this for about 5 minutes then it starts to rev up lower until it idles on 10,000 but does cut out as it struggles to keep there. When it's hot i don't have this problem.

Is the choke sticking?
does it then come off too soon cutting off the engine?

The whole thing standing still goes on for 5 minutes which makes me think above as i can't see the engine to be warm enough too cut off?

It idles perfect when warm.

If it is the choke , how do i go about fixing this problem?

Thanks
