I'm gonna have to go outside a bit and peer into the bonnets of both the Golf and the Rado as I don't think either of those has 3 pipes either.

I think that is a mk2 pump fitted.

Just looked and my MKII has the same pump as fitted to guys car and not the new one.

Had a look on the Rado and it looks like it only has two pipes but hard to see as the PAS stuff gets in the way. I suspect the extra tapped hole is for a car with PAS for the bracket to bolt to. I surmise therefore that the above pump could well be for a VAG 16v lump with PAS.

wtf, that pump is listed for MK2 8v/16v GTI on GSF as well, and if so it should deffo have 2 outlets on it. What a load of muppets GSF are:
17058  WATER PUMP-COMPLETE    G2 GTI / 16V 8/83 >    18.25

maybe its this one you need:
17058A  WATER PUMP-COMPLETE    VW/AUDI 1.5-2.0 PETROL+1.6D-1.9TDi 81>**    29.95

random indeed... i'm pleased that you was right and they was wrong... just a bit annoying but these things happen

still not convinced the belt would be a go-er though... reckon it is worth popping to vw to get a genuine one instead?
